How do I adjust the convergence properties on an RCA rear projection tv?

Normally on the RCA rear projection TV's you would bring up your menu and choose the Setup menu, then press OK on the remote. That menu would then have Convergence as a choice. Once that was chosen the next menu would give you the choice of either letting the TV run it's own Autoconvergence program, or you would select either Red or Blue convergence.

Choosing Red Convergence would bring up a Yellow cross-hair in the middle of the screen. If the Convergence was not correct you would see separate Green and Red cross-hairs. Once they were perfectly aligned you would again see one Yellow cross-hair.

Choosing Blue Convergence would bring up a Blue cross-hair in the center of the screen. If the alignment was out you would see 2 Blue cross-hairs. Using the Up and Down and Left and Right cursor keys you would adjust the alignment until a single solid Blue cross-hair was in the center of the screen.

Unable to align cross hairs on the blue lense. Dose the lense need to be replaced?

Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.
This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projection sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem.

Common Symptoms include....
•Screen looks 3D
•Colors don't line up
•One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
•Screen is bowed or warped.
•TV shuts off after powering on. Power light will blink. TV may also make a chirping noise.

Does it take some type of gel under the lights, the colors are a little blurry

i also have this tv. i removed backcleaned mirrior, back of screen and lenses VERY GOOD. Then turned on tv go to convergence, sepaerate cross hairs then adjust focus on lenses. Then lenses rotate maybe about a 1/3 turn total by hand. Grab ring that houses lenses and turn until cross hairs are as clear as possible. This can be done with out help by watching inside of screen. red and green are adjustable, the blue is adjustablealso but i couldnt find blue cross hairs, maybe by covering red and green lenses the blue will show on screen. anyway when done and cross hairs are clear, lenses, mirror and screen are clean, you can adjust covergence and get a very clear screencleaning will also brighten pic. Cannot reset vertical convergance

The most likely cause is shorted convergence chips and possibly a few pico fuses.

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. This is called convergence.

When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired. Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony,Samsung,JVC,Philip Magnavox,Panasonic,Akai,Pioneer2_bing.gif Hitachi,Mitsubishi,Zenith and others.
You can get a convergenece repair kit with instructions from the links below.

I have green outlines in the pictures

go into your menu there should be something called convergence in the menu a red and a blue convergence. when you select one you will get a cross in the center of your screen use the selection keys to move this so the two crosses are on top of each other. once you align both the red and blue ( the green is the base) then go to the multi point convergence if all crosses are lined up you are good if not then you will need to replace the convergence I.C. for that color or both. let me know how this turns out.

Screen hazzy and issue with blue convergence

bad convergence would cause show to look as if it was supposed to be a 3-d movie, if a bulb was going out then people would look purple blue -green,or some other off color, so likely the green bulb is going out from the color of the people you described.

Color problem

Did you try alignment of color convergence in setting up. Try this
1 Press MENU
2 Select SET UP
3 Select CONVERGENCE
4 Select screen mode ZOOM this accesses the center convergence adjustment.Press set/enter
5 Use arrow keys to aline the red cross to the white cross.Press set/enter
6 Use arrow keys to alingn the blue line in the same manner. Once adjustment is complete press MENU to turn the menu off.
I hope this helps if you cant move the red or blue lines you face the same problem I face. I still havent gotton any solutions to my post about being unable to adjust the red line. You could also call Pioneer's help line 800-421-1404.

Touch-up Convergence adjustments Enter the Digital Convergence Mode (DCM) by entering 0-6-2-5-9-7-(Status or Index) on the Remote control. The following menu will appear: Select an active channel or Aux Input. A signal must be applied to the set when performing convergence. If any Customer Adjustments need to be made, the Menu button can be used to toggle between the Customer Menu and DCM. The MPOSD ADJUST is used to center the Customer Convergence grid. A highlighted cross will appear along with the Convergence alignment grid. The highlighted cross should be centered onto the center of the Convergence grid.
