Hi,
First off what is the exact model number and how long have you owned. Being that this is a portable player there isn't much troubleshooting you can do most likely its either a problem with an internal connection or the screen itself. being how cheap you can get portable dvd players for you may want to consider replacing it.
Thank you,
Lee

Hi, the model# is PDV702, 7" portable dvd player. I have had the dvd player for 4 years, but have not used the player but 5 times in 4 years. The player was working fine last week and when I went to use it this week the screen has lines and the pitcure is hard to see or blury. What could have happened in a week for the screen to go haywire. Thank you

It is possible that anything could have caused this a loose internal connection or a faulty component. This is what you would consider a "throw away" item. You can get another one for 60-80$ so it's not worth the cost of repair, if the parts are even available.
    Thank you,
    Lee

I don't think you know what i'm talking about and why does every one say what I have is a throw away. My husband paid $75 for this dvd player and that was the sales price. This is not a throw away I haven't used this player very much at all. maybe 5 times in four years. People don't buy something for $75 and use it 5 times and throw it away. You need to get your book out and find the problem when I paid $9 to have this problem fixed. This cost me $9 to get answer like this. You are not an expert. Thank you for your presious time.

For one there is no "book" to just open up and solve the problem. for two, this is a 4 year old portable dvd player that only cost 75$. for , do you have the proper diagnostic tools for diagnosing electronics a multimeter oscilloscope, etc? If not then there isn't much that can be done. You can disassemble it yourself and reinsert the connections to see if that is the problem beyond that you would need to replace it as parts aren't available. Also it is a "throw away" item. Just research the brand name. That is what they make throw away electronics. If you want something that is repairable you get a brand name that is reputable. So just because the answer you get isn't to your liking doesn't mean it's not correct.
Repairing the unit isn't worth the time or money.
    Thank you,
    Lee

Is that the problem of your dvd player? Or is it a problem concerning your display screen? Check if the problem still persist with the display screen when the player is not in use. Check it after UNPLUGGING the player from the screen. Reply after the check up.

Since the lines exist even when the d.v.d player is not attached to the screen, it seems that it is the problem of your t.v. What type of t.v do you use? Plasma / l.c.d / h.d.t.v / Polaroid t.v ?

Hello,

I suspect that the fault is from the screen inverter or flex of your player. This can develop fault has a result of opening and closing of the player, the flex can worn out or ware out in the process.

To know precisely if that's the fault, connect the player to an external TV, using the AV Out connect of the player. The AV wire should come along with the player. Connect the wire to the and if the display is perfect, then know truly that your screen inverter or flex is faulty.

But if the picture is the same on an external TV, then it should be that the player is on NTSC, use the remote control to change it to PAL, or go to the display settings and change to PAL.

I hope you understand my solution.

Good luck.

What does "line in" mean? I can't get anything on the screen except for those two words. It worked fine until we recently traveled and was checked at security. Could this have anything to do with it?

Line In means you can hook any other video source with this player to watch it on its screen.
There is switch at side of player, turn it to other side to watch dvd picture in this player.
Hope this info will help you.
Thanks.

Audio on portable DVD player decreasing.

Could be a blown speaker or the amp circuitry driving the speaker is bad. One way you can get around this is to run the audio through the auxillary output of your dvd through either headphones, your car stereo through a line input, or hook up a pair of external speakers to the player.

A lot of times the quality of the audio in the built in speaker on portable DVD players is not of good quality to begin with. The above suggestions should correct it.

Screen displays "Error data" when trying to play a DVD

My understanding is that the DVD player uses a different lens to the CD player. So the DVD lens might need cleaning. A CD lens cleaner would not correct the DVD side.
