Question about Toshiba 42H81 42" Rear Projection Television

JVC TV 27" Black line on top of screen

Hi all, I hope someone can give some guidance.  I have a 27" JVC TV Model AV-27D302.  It is about 3 years old.  A black line has appeared across the top of the screen.  The line is about 1 - 1 1/2" thick.  Under the black line is a double image - the top of the screen inverted on top of the regular picture (sorry if this sounds confusing.  It is hard to describe in words!).  I have looked in the manuals, but did not find anything in the troubleshooting section that helped.  I looked in the back of the TV - no horizontal or vertical control buttons to adjust. I disconnected the cable line and the problem is still there, so it is not my cable signal.   Any suggestions before I carry it to a service center? Thanks,   Brendan Just as a note before = I dont know what number my tv is, its a Toshiba from around 1995 and its about 30 inches, I couldnt find a catagory for it) My TV has been dying slowly for the past few months. It started with just one line at the top of the screen all the way across the top, that was about an inch wide. Solid black and it doesnt change, but recently it has been getting bigger and is now about 3 inches wide. I noticed the other day that if I swap to a VHS tape and the grey/black crackly screen ( that comes on before you put the movie in) comes on then the lines are gone and the whole screen is crackly, but as soon as you put a movie in then the line comes back. It cant be the tube or the actual color things in the screen because the crackly screen is fine. So what would be the answer?

This is for the original problem.. Not the second post.

It's a problem in the horizontal deflection circuit. The parts will be available, but you will be in for some daignostic repairs also to find out why it failing or if it has failed on it's own.
There should be a few caps near the IC (an LA7840) that could also be causing the problem. Click the link, it will make it easier to locate the part inside.

This is the kind of repair best left to a TV tech, but get it done now and it won't cost anywhere near as much as it will later.

JVC Model no: AV-48WP34 Projection Problems

OK, problem seems in convergence section of TV and can be confirmed by testing voltage supply as mentioned in schematics.

You can download service manual copy from Manual Zone for small fee and it has schematics, exploded views. board location, part numbers info.

Let me know if you need further help.

In the customer menu page thru it until you come to a page that has an item called convergence. move the cursor down to hightlight this and press enter. The next screen will have an Auto on the top line and a Manual of the second line. Hightlight the auto and press enter. The TV will attempt an automatic convergence alignment. BE WARNED>>>It will either correct it or make it worst. If it gets worst then the TV's convergence circuit has aged and is starting to fail. If it corrected it it's the same aging but not as bad, YET. If there is no change or it got worst then you will need to have the TV serviced preferbly by an authorized JVC service center because they have access to the service literature and buttetins.

I have a JVC AV-48WP30, and I had a lot of issues w/ red lines appearing on my screen. If your problem is like mine, then you have to find the video processor, which is a small, squarish metal box on the main board right behind where the a/v plugs are on the back, and jiggle it a little bit, maybe stick a zip tie on there. That always made my lines disappear.

Converge problem how to fix JVC AV56wp74

There are two of the IC's in the tv. First things first, turn the tv off and unplug it. Wait a few minutes, then open up the back by unscrewing the screws in the back panel. Now slide out the wooden panel that divides the upper and lower part of the cabinet. You'll see some cards sticking out of the plastic input panel. Find the one for DVI (it's the furthest to the right and it's at the top). Unplug all of the cables that are attached to this board. If you look closely, on the top of this board (the edge facing the top of the tv) there is a tiny little square looking hole on it. Cover this with black electrical tape or something that will not allow light in. The reason we do this is because JVC made a booby trap that erases the eeprom if you try and operate the tv with the back off. If the sensor senses light when the tv is on, it will erase the eeprom. Ok well now that that's covered, the actual convergence board (the one with the two IC's) is the board in the very front of the tv. It's long and slim and you'll immediately be able to see the two IC chips. They are big black things with lots of pins and they are pushed up against heatsinks. Those are what you would want to replace. Now I've not taken the boards out before, but from the looks of things, all of the boards are on a big black plastic tray so you can take them all out at once. I don't know if you can get just the convergence board out very easily, but at least now you know where and what it is. I would seek further instruction from someone a bit more knowledgeable about taking the boards out, but that should give you enough to do until you find more help. Hope this helped!

Tv screen waves and is double

No. You have bad convergence output ic;s and probably at least 1 burnt resistor. This liely will have to be reconvergec in the servcie menu after the aprts are changed.
