LG 42 LCD TV HDD initialization in progress message
Hi I have a 42 inch LG LCD with built in DVR functions. Recently, the TV gives a "HDD initialization in progress" message when I try to access the recorded programs menu. Also, live pause and rewind are not functioning (since the HDD is not recording). I cannot format using the TV menu. Any ideas?

Are you referring to the DVR function of the TV, if so what country are you both in? I believe the US does not allow the DVR feature on the US model TV's (or didn't when I worked for LG), Canada does.
Check you both have the same software level, look in the support menu for the software revision.
My guess is that a chip or chips are beginning to fail. These chips can sometimes be replaced but be sure to get a written quote because sometimes it is more expensive to fix then it is worth. It is also not always a perfect fix. Unless chips are replaced with identical chips sound can be out of sync, tv features can be lost or any other possibilities.
mine did the same thing once, I unplugged it long enough to make sure it shuts down all the way and let it reset itself. Turned it back on and it was and is fine [it's been 2 mos. now] That worked this time.
Last time one of my kids spilled something down the back and it gradually went out. 600.00 to have the part replaced.
The HDD on this set is a SATA drive. It connects directly to the main board on the set. You can take the drive out of the set and format it on your PC, if it formats then replace the main board. If it will not format replace with a SATA drive of similar size.
Target sells a GE Universal Remote Control, 5 Device with learning feature. I can't say if it works with your Verizon DVR, but its code for the Akai LCT3285TA is 1139. If you have the Verizon's remote, you should be able to use the learning function to make the GE control it - that's if the GE doesn't have a built in code that will work for this DVR.
