So does the screen go black when Windows starts to load?

If so the problem most likely is an issue with the video drivers. With the LCD monitors they get picky with the signal that they are sent. So if there is a problem with the drivers you get the black screeen problem that you have now.

The easy fix is to hook up a CRT monitor. Doing this should let you see Windows load. Once it loads then all you need to do is reinstall the drivers for your video card.

Let me know if you have any mor question or problems. Also if you do not have access to a CRT I will give you the next part to go through.

I was just checking back with you to see if you were repling back to me. To clarify with you it looks like the problem is with the video card drivers. So trying to do a Windows repair most likely will not fix the problem with the driver. The best thing for you to do is get you hands on a CRT monitor to get Windows loaded so you can reinstall the drivers. As long has to have not messed up you install this should work. Note if you do not have access to a CRT monitor you may be able to try an LCD monitor of another brand.

If you still have trouble you are going to have to do a hard back up of the hard drive on another computer and reinstall Windows.

Let me know if you have any more questions

Hi! I do understand you have a problem with your pc. Before performing the system recovery, try these recommendations:

Turn off the machine, then remove the cables on your desktop pc. Then press and hold the power button on the computer. Then reinsert back the cables and turn on the pc. While turning on the pc, repeatedly press F8 if you can so that you can select safe mode with networking. If it is successful, try to back up the files on your pc using a external hard drive or maybe a USB flash drive. Then refer to your manual if you can perform a factory restore on your pc without using a CD since you mention that you cannot able to use the recovery disc to recover files. Instead, you can try to use the same disk to create a new partition. That is why it is very important to back up the files on your pc. If all else fails then try to call your emachine manufacturer for immediate repair....

Hello.

First, see if your memory is the culprit. Remove all and add one at a time (if multiple modules) to test. Be certain to disconnect all connected cables and touch metal to dispel static electricity before removing the memory.

You may be able to access Recovery Mode by tapping the F10 key at bootup. Select the boot drive. select the hard drive and then as it starts to change, press together Alt and F10 keys to go into emachine recovery mode.

Hope this helps.

If UBCD is allowing you to boot your system, can you run diagnostics on it ?? If UBCD is telling you that there are no problems, it's referring to hardware.

Therefore, Windows XP needs to be reinstalled. If you are unable to retrieve the Recovery Partition, the only other way is to reinstall Windows XP with a purchased CD. You'll need to download the drivers for your computer. At the very minimum, download the chipset and network drivers from another PC and copy to a diskette or flash drive for your Emachine.

    to repair the computer

    Hi,

Acer E-Machines uses ISO image inorder to perform recovery and reinstalling Windows. So, if you try to use UBCD it will not recognize the OS and hence will make the recovery partiion inaccessible. You can use the UBCD, if in case you are using a retail version of Windows but not OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer). By the way, what is the excat situation right now on your computer. Is it stuck at e-Machines logo or Windows screen. Please find the below details:

If stuck at e-Machines logo, then try the below mentioned steps:

It may happen due to hardware failure, BIOS mismatch or due to static charge. Let us try the basic troubleshooting. Turn Off the Computer, remove all the devices attached to the computer, the power cable and battrey, now holdon the power button for 15 secs (make sure adpater and battery are uplugged) it will drain out all the static charge. Now, restart the computer and keep on tapping F2, you will enter to BIOS setup utility, press F9 (click "Yes", if you are prompted) and then press F10 (Click "Yes", if you are prompted), it will restart the computer to Normal mode. If still it is not booting to normal mode, then we have to perform a full system recovery & it is a distructive process as you will loose all the datas on the computer. To do so, Turn Off the computer, now as soon as you hit the power button, keep on holding "Alt" key & keep on tapping "F10" key, i.e Alt+f10, it will open the recovery console, select full factory restore and follow onscreen instruction. NOTE: This will erase all the datas on the computer.

If stuck at Windows logo, try the below mentioned steps:

Shutdown the computer and Restart it, as soon as it restarts keep on tapping F8 key, now select, "Last Good Known Configuration" and hit "Enter" key. It should take care of the issue. If not, then boot the computer to "Safemode", to do so, restart the computer and as soon as it restarts keep on tapping F8 key, now select "Safemode" from the Advance boot menu. If it is booting to Safemode, then perfomr a system restore to previous date. If nothing happens, then you have to perfomr a full system restore.

How do you put the Windows XP back to factory default in the start?

There's two ways, one is using system restore and using the oldest restore point, as long as the points weren't deleted to increase storage space.

The other way is to use a windows XP install disk and doing a fresh install of XP.

As for a system, you can restore a system like a pre-built, say a eMachine using the recovery partition or recovery disks.

My hard drive burnt out. The hard drive test says failed and the operating system won't boot. I placed a leftover hard drive from my Playstation 3 into the laptop and now it says no operating system found....

Try the recovery console from a windows xp recovery/install disk:
To run the Recovery Console from the Windows XP startup disks or the Windows XP CD-ROM, follow these steps:
1.Insert the Windows XP startup disk into the floppy disk drive, or insert the Windows XP CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive, and then restart the computer.
Click to select any options that are required to start the computer from the CD-ROM drive if you are prompted.
2.When the "Welcome to Setup" screen appears, press R to start the Recovery Console.
3.Select the operating system you want to repair (you may have only one option).
4.When you are prompted, type the Administrator password. If the administrator password is blank, just press ENTER.
5.At the command prompt, type the appropriate commands to diagnose and repair your Windows XP installation. From here I would try "chkdsk /r" and "fixboot"
For a list of commands that are available in Recovery Console, type recovery console commands or help at the command prompt, and then press ENTER.
For information about a specific command, type help commandname at the command prompt, and then press ENTER.
6.To exit the Recovery Console and restart the computer, type exit at the command prompt, and then press ENTER.
Once you've done this restart the computer and see if it boots up.

Tried to do a restore with restore disc that came with the comput

There seems to be a problem with the operating system that is being installed. This often happens if you use the restore disks that came from another computer.

Are you sure that you used the disks that came with that exact computer? Does it flash a blue screen right before restarting the cycle?

Try the restore over again and if the problem persists, you may have to either order new restore disks for your computer or buy a fresh copy of Windows XP.

Acer 7720 will not boot

Do you want to try and see if a 'Linux LiveCD' boots? This is the way I test if the computer works. You burn this CD to a disk, and then boot off of it when you're computer starts. I will not modify anything on your computer as long as you go to 'Try Ubuntu with out installing'

http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download

Don't worry, I'm not trying to get you to install anything, just see if it boots into the 'live environment' (means you are running it off of the cd) If this works, that means that it is only your windows installation is messed up, and a reinstallation of windows should work fine with a Windows install CD NOT the recovery cd.

AVG 7 detecdted Virus Hurri on partition table. How do I remove ?

You will need to fix the master boot record with the Windows XP Recovery Console. To do this, you will need a Windows XP install CD.

Here are the steps to use the recovery console:

To run the Recovery Console from the Windows XP startup disks or the Windows XP CD-ROM, follow these steps:
  1. Insert the Windows XP startup disk into the floppy disk drive, or insert the Windows XP CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive, and then restart the computer.

Click to select any options that are required to start the computer from the CD-ROM drive if you are prompted.
  2. When the "Welcome to Setup" screen appears, press R to start the Recovery Console.
  3. If you have a dual-boot or multiple-boot computer, select the installation that you must access from the Recovery Console.
  4. When you are prompted, type the Administrator password. If the administrator password is blank, just press ENTER.
  5. At the command prompt, type the appropriate commands to diagnose and repair your Windows XP installation.

In this instance, the correct commands are:

c:\fixmbr
c:\fixboot
The type exit after finishing then remove the Original OS CD.
The machine will reboot properly.

This will fix your boot sector

And All should be well
