I want to install my 2007 word on my netbook (no cd-space) but with usb-stick its only a 3kb link, can i download a testversion and then use my product-key?

The product-key for MS Office (Student) will only work for a student edition of the software, and may not work for a student trial.
For an easy work around you can use "Daemon Tools" which is free software. With this program you can insert your MS Office Disk into another computer (with a CD drive) and essentially burn the disk to a file on your USB drive, and install it from the USB. 1: Download and install Daemon Tools. (Again it's free, do not pay for it) 2: Insert MS Office Student CD into CD ROM drive. 3: Open Daemon Tools. 4: Select "Burn Image From CD". 5: Select destination: USB Thumb Drive. 6: Insert USB drive into Netbook. 7: Open USB Drive. 8: Open Image file; Install Office as usual.
Daemon Tools is free and rather simple to use.

I just bought a new laptop with Microsoft office student already installed and every time i open the application it asks me for a product code. i've tried every code that came with the computer but so far...

It sounds like the Microsoft office student product pre-installed on your laptop may be a trial version. Also look through the documentation that came with the laptop and call the manufacutre to see if the Microsoft office student was suppose to come with the product code. The manufacture may have not put the code in with the other documentation. If you are an enrolled student you can get the Microsoft Office 2007 Ultimate for about $60 directly from Microsoft at the following website.

I have the Microsoft office home and student 2007 cd but can not get it to load on my computer

If the program does not automatically start from your cd drive, open windows explorer and find the CD drive. You might see an auto-start application file which you can try. If that doesn't work check the other files and files with the folders that show up on the CD for an installation/application file.

I bought the $150 Office software, inserted it in the drive, and nothing happened! I double clicked, and it never asked me for priceless product key. I was never given prompts or instructions. Aaargh!

Did you purchase this program from a well-known legitimate source? If yes, it should install properly.

Insert the Office CD in your CD/DVD drive. If it doesn't start automatically, then Open Computer and choose the CD/DVD drive. Look for a file similar to Setup.exe and double-click on it. It will start the setup process and ask for the product key, etc.

If this doesn't work, contact the vendor you purchased it from and ask for an exchange as there is a flaw with the CD you received.

Hi Larry,

There are really only three possibilities for this then.

1. Windows 7 isn't getting the correct response when you activate Office and is convinced you used a Home and Student version License.

2. You did use the wrong product key and are licensed for home and student

3. Your product failed to activate when you re-installed and is in trial mode.

For a brief education on this. There is only one version of office released in each year it's produced. It includes all of the possible programs and features and can be licensed for any of the available terms. The disks don't matter much, it's more to do with your license sticker with the product key. When you install a version of office it installs all the programs then asks for a license.

Whatever your product key is licensed for it will activate. For convenience the various retail packages are taylored to the product key that comes with them but will generally work with any other key from that year activating and using all programs that were both in that disk and covered by your license.

Once installed the program must be activated or it remains in trial mode. and will only allow a limited # of uses until it deactivates itself.

Of course there is still the possibility that this is an issue with installing or activating on 7 as it is not yet fully tested and ready for sale.

I will provide you with two microsoft support links. The first describes how to check your version, this will confirm or deny that you're using the right disk and key. Assuming you are try the second to confirm you have already activated Office. If both are in the green then this may be a problem with 7 or more specifically some new updates you may have installed when re-installing seven.

If it comes down to 7 being the issue try running any remaining windows updates including optional ones, then check for office updates as well.

First link for checking version, when you get to the "About" page look at the second line from the top it will state which version is licensed.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/937676

Second link, Click the link and scroll down to "What do you want to do", then click Activate office at a later time and follow the listed instructions.

http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/help/HA012334341033.aspx#3

Again if either of these two garner unexpected results comment back here, if not try the updating for both windows and office, unfortunately that's about all you can do if you're running 7 at this time.

Hope this helps FixYa,

Chris
