There should be a round green button one the back of the unit. Press and release that button and ten press your remote button. That should program your remote.

Just guessing here. If it's a 1996 model, there will be some DIP switches in both the remote and the receiver on the garage ceiling. They have to be set to the same positions. If you don't know what a DIP switch is, Google it. You'll see pictures and then you'll know what to look for.

Change dip switch setting and were are the located ?

Dip switches are located on the circuit board.
These switches are for changing temperature and altitude etc, and depending on brand and model, the switches settings are different.

Liftmaster Garage Door Opener won't clear codes

This was a first generation learn button model. Antiquated by current technology standards. It was a two channel system. One channel for a dip switch remote, the second for a 66LM key pad. No way to erase the programming, however, by programming in a dip switch remote (61LM with the dip switches set to new positions, and a 66lm set to a new entry code) will purge the two channels of their previous memory, now set to the the new settings.

Dip switch

You don't need codes. I'm not sure what you are trying to do but to program the opener for a remote you need to hold the button down on the remote while you press and immediately release the smart/learn button. The smart/learn button is on the rear of the motor unit near where all those white wires go.

I have an opener model no. 139.53515SR. How do I find out what the operarting frequency settings are so I can set the dip switches on the hand held unit. The original hand held unit is lost. Thank you...

You don't need to set the dip switches. Locate the smart/learn button on the rear of the motor unit near where all those white wires go. While holding the button on the remote press and release the smart/learn button. Your remote should now operate the door.

I would go with a chamberlain clicker on this issue. These remote are phased out and the 9 dips don't work well with them. Thanks BB

The dip switch is on the receiver box which is located inside the housing on the ceiling, inside the remote control, and inside the wall switch if you have a wall switch made to control the fan.  All must have the same dip switch settings.
