To change the IP address of the router, you will need to open the setup page of the router.
On this page uner LAN settings you will see the Local Ip address of the router.
you can change the IP address of the router here.
Make sure that you will use only private IP address.
Let's take an example. If the current IP address of the router is 192.168.1.1.
Then you can change the IP address of the router to 192.168.x.y. where the X and Y will be 0 to 254.
Is there any computer connected to the router ?
If not then you will need to connect the computer to the router.
Do not change any wireless settings on the router with the wireless computer.
you will need to connect the computer to the router with the Ethernet cable.
check the IP address of the computer.
open the router set up page of the router.
Here you can change the wireless settings of the router.
Now once you change the network anme and security on the router, you will need to connect to the wireless network on your wireless computers.

SOURCE: Belkin F5D8236-4 v2 - disconnects

You can get the latest firmware here:
http://www.belkin.com/support/article/?lid=en&pid=F5D8236-4&aid=14396&scid=942

I don't think that it is a problem with your IP address settings.
I would disable all security temporarily, just to see if that makes a difference.
If you are using Windows Vista, take a look at this post and see if that could be one of the underlying problems.

If you have any more questions, just come back here and leave a comment - I'm happy to help.

Iam having different ips from wan is this mean someone is accessing my network?

You just have Dynamic ip, nothing to worry about.

"Static IP addressing is for one customer on one IP address and Dynamic IP addressing assigns a different IP address each time the ISP customer logs on to their computer, but this is dependent upon the Internet Service Provider (ISP) because some ISP's only change the IP address as they deem it necessary.

If you have Dynamic IP Addressing through your Website Host it means that you are sharing an IP Address with several other customers.

If you are a beginner on the internet, an avid internet user, are entertaining the thought of starting your own website business, are a gamer, use VOIP or VPN there are several things you should know about IP Addressing."

How do I change my ip address? I got blocked from Wikipedia indefinetly for no reason. I need help changing my ip address.

talk to your ISP... you may need several calls to get the helpful technicial try and think of a more valid excuse for needing a new ip... you believe your getting hacked or are getting poor lag times on a game or xbox. they will try and tell you its fault but be nice and follow thier "troubleshooting tips" most likely rebooting the router, building a few calls to the call bank will help you convince the last guy you need a new ip for lag reasons and he will help you out.

I just set up a netgear router and a lynksys expander. All my laptops work, but iphone & itouch will not. Seems as though the password has changed. Can this happen? How can I find the password? When I...

If you did not configure the Netgear wireless router and changed the default settings and the default password password, then your wireless system is open to anyone hacking into your system and change your wireless router's settings and they can hack into your computers and your Internet connection. The Linksys expander will increase the wireless range to give a wider coverage to your router.
I suggest you reset the Netgear back to the factory defaults (press the pinhole button on the back of the Netgear router until the LEDs flash then release this button,
The configure the Netgear as follows :-
To set-up and secure the wireless router from unauthorized access, follow these steps: -
1. Connect the wireless router to your computer with a LAN cable.
2. Start your browser and enter the router's configuration URL IP address.
3. Enter the router setup, login and password
4. Change the admin password
5. Go to the wireless settings and change the default SSID and turn off SSID broadcast.
6. Setup encryption key the strongest is WPA2 (if not then WPA).
7. For further security measures - turn on MAC address filtering and enter the MAC address of the wireless cards on the computer/s you want to connect to this wireless router.
8. Record the settings you have made and keep it in a safe place and Save the settings.
9. Configure the wireless cards on the computer/s with the SSID and encryption settings of the router.
10. Remove the LAN cable between the router and the computer then the computers should be able to connect to the router wirelessly.

How do i set a password to protect my wireless internet

Access the Router's page and go to Wireless configuration. You may assigned a WEP key that uses hexadecimal value (A-F, 0-9). So if someone attempts to access your Wireless network, they will prompt to enter a Wep key.

Router

ah i see, i think the name change wont matter, i'ts the ip address of the router you need to change to the next number from the other router or the last number as long as it's in the same series as all your ip addresses.

You will have to get into the second router separately to change its gateway address then link it in the system, but you will have to turn off DHCP in the router so it cannot give out ip address as only one router can do that, which is what i meant in the first solution posting.

Changin ip address

you can change your ip adress, but that will not stop the criminals. most likely you get your ip dynamicly. The system will tell your computer what the ip is. best bet, do not mess with the ip, will save you the pain in the future.

my advice, get better security. Get a firewall, there are free ones on the internet. Don't trust the microsoft firewall, not that good.

If you have broadband, get a router. There are nice routers with some good software firewalls installed, but you don't need to spend the money for those. Any good basic router will provide a basic firewall protection.

Get a router, and install a firewall on your computer.

stay away from norton, I don't like there products, slow down your system too much.

zone alarm is good.

If you computer got hacked, most likely you caused it. You could have a trojan on your computer. Make sure you get a virus scanner. I use AVG.
