TI calculators have an annoying habit of dimming the screen when the batteries are changed so that it appears as if the calculator isn't turning on. Turn the calculator on (or at least press the ON key). Press and release the 2ND key. Press and hold the Up-arrow key for a few seconds and see whether the screen becomes legible. Does that do anything?

I stop using my TI-86 for a few months and know

I hadn't used mine in years and had the same problem. Essentially you just need to give it a workout to get all the pixels working properly again and then it'll be just fine. I adjusted the contrast between full dark and nothing multiple times and turned the calculator on and off after each cycle and now it works like new.

I do not see anything on the screen. I replaced

First try turning the calculator on and then pressing the 2nd key. Hold down the "up arrow". If the contrast has been turned down, this should turn it up.

If that doesn't work, could be that your calculator needs to be reset. Take out the internal battery located right above the 4 AAA batteries behind a small door with a screw. Leave all batteries out for about 8 hours. Reassemble and hopefully you can turn it on. If this doesn't work, you might replacing the internal battery. Hopefully one of these solutions will work.

A friend gave me a TI-86 graphing Calc. I wont turn on!!!

maybe try changing the small memory battery inside, I think its a cr1616 or cr1620. If this doesn't work use it as a paperweight.
