SOURCE: poulan push mower question

Check the engine manufacturers web site. You will need your engine number. .....You will find an on line diagram and part numbers for your engine. Also, Most Mower Parts stores have the same thing !

SOURCE: Poulan 550 mower idle problme

Check air filter, replace if needed.
Check engine oil level and condition. Add/change as needed.
Check spark plug. Clean and re-gap if needed (.030 gap)
Drain the fuel and replace with fresh premium grade gasoline. If your local station has a notice on the pump regarding Ethanol content, drive to another station!

Most owner's manuals specify 89 octane or higher and most warranties become void if E85 fuel is used.

And finally, Oxygenated fuels are not your mower's best friend. :-)

Hope this helps.

SOURCE: I have a poulan pro

tilt the mower down by the handle, and underneath on the bottom of the motor you will find a drain plug. it has a 3/8 square hole in it. This is the oil drain plug.

I have a Poulan 550 158cc Push Mower. Two Model #'s 96132004200 and PR0550N21RH3. Two Serial #'s 0901075421770 and 011309M001762. The mower will run if primed then dies. The carb. is on the tank. I...

does it have fresh gas in it, If so time to rebuild the carb, even though you blew through all holes there is a diaphram inside the carb that pumps gas to it, so I suggest you take the carb apart and clean inside out and replace the diaphram, the way you describe it only runs on primer, tells me the carb is not getting fuel. Good Luck

Cannot find drain to change oil.

Poulon 550 yellow 22" Briggs and Stratton. It looks like you have to drain it out the cap by tipping it. There IS no plug on mine - spent 40 minutes looking for one, and I know what both types of the plug look like. What a lousy design. This mower is a piece of junk. The valve froze a week after I got it. Never again. A headache.

Poulan 550 Series push mower won't pull start

Hmmmm,,and the plot thickens. Without seeing the unit, i would have to think that when you pull the engine control cable bar, its not releasing the brake that sits against the flywheel. These cables do stretch. Pull the engine cover and you will see the brake against the flywheel. Pull the engine control handle and watch and see if brake is releasing. If its not, replace the cable.
That would be my bet. I hope this is of some help.

Engine started smoking real bad, it still starts

Could be just a head gasket, also could be rings. Could also be oil in the gas or bad gas overall. Empty out the gas, change the oil, and try again. If it does the same thing take it to service shop.
