Is there any way to get a set of comparable batteries for my 1959 Philco Transistor radio? I just found it after 50 years.
It lists Mercury cell type p-640 in the battery compartment. I know you can't get mercury batteries anymore, but I'm looking for something that might work. I don't know what the voltage they should be either.
Thanks so much!

the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

With digital broadcasting, the tuner won't pick up any stations, so it's value has diminished to most buyers. Only an avid collector would show any interest in it.

Transister rsdio won't turn on or off

Very likely bad batteries in the handhelds. Make certain they have been charged fully and try again. If not, get new batteries. Batteries go bad even not used, sitting in a box or on a shelf. 1999 are likely nicad chemistry and without a professional battery conditioner, I doubt they will take a charge. You could try to charge and dis charge them your self 10-12 times. Sometimes this will work. Fully charge the battery, put in the radio and turn it on until the radio beeps. Do not let it go dead overnight or you make the problem worse.

Changed the battery in my 2-Way Radio CLS1110 and it will turn on but when you push talk it goes off

The battery is bad or not charged. Check your charger and charger/battery connection. Clean all contacts with a pencil eraser and try charging again. With a new battery it may take up to 3 charge cycles to fully charge your battery.

Best regards.

Bose radio will not turn on

You didn't mention which model of the Wave Radio you have but since you have a 9V battery it narrows it down to a couple of models. You might want to check the Q4 transistor (2SC3792) for a short on the two outide pins. With the power disconnected, measure with a multimeter the resistance between the two outside pins of the Q4 transistor. If you measure anything between 0-3 ohms it is shorted. Replace this part with a similar part or you could replace it with the new Bose recommended part - 2SD438F-MP-E but it is very hard to obtain. I have used an 2SC2655 instead and had no problems so far with the radio. This radio also came in totally dead with no display nor the radio working.

Hi, I have a vintage GRUNDIG YACHT BOY 210 RADIO; Battery & Mains & sadly although the radio works on VHF it does not work on any other waveband not even static! Can you help? Thanks, Melvin...

HI Melvin. It is hard to diagnose issues like that over the net. But my first suspicion would be the bandswitch, if so equipped. Contacts can get dirty. I just had a look at your radio's photo, and it looks to be the age of a set that would have a bandswitch.

If you are experienced at romoving the rear of the cabinet, you may be able to see the band switch. It is full of contacts. You can use a contact cleaner, (make SURE it is safe to use on plastics) spray a little on the wafer switch, the work it back and forth.

This is what a typical bandswitch looks like.

This is the most common reason a set will not pick up on some bands. Pushbutton operated radios is the next common cause of no reception on certain bands. I strongly doubt it would be from an open coil or other major issue.

Good luck an hope you get the set working.

Way low modgilation compared to the strong carrier on my 150 gtl

could be a bad mic cartridge or your radio needs to be tuned for more swing. Is it a power mic ? If so try changing the battery.

Power supply

This unit takes a 12V 0.5A DC power supply. Your local Radio Shack sells this type of supply that will plug into the wall. You'll need to make sure that the other end will plug into the turntable, but for the supply, Radio Shack is probably the quickest way.
