Did you forget the password or is it not allowing you to even put in a password. I will start with a how to reset the password. If this does not work please let me know by following up with a comment and i can instruct you where to go from here. According to Apple, if you have forgotten the code, you can unlock the IPod by doing the following: Connect your IPod to the primary computer you use it with (the first one IPod synced with), and open iTunes. When you disconnect iPod from the computer, it will no longer be locked. If you can't unlock IPod using either [the code or connecting it to the computer you use to manage its songs]. . . you can restore your iPod to factory settings using iPod Updater. Please note that this will erase all data on your iPod. Afterwards, you can add your music and data back to your iPod. If you want to change the primary computer that your IPod is associated with, do this: 1. Restore your iPod. WARNING: The restore process cannot be undone. All of your songs and files will be deleted. Always make a backup of your important data. 2. Connect your iPod to the computer that you want to be the primary computer. 3. Open iTunes and synchronize. Apple also notes that company "representatives cannot unlock an iPod if you forget your combination. If you can't unlock your iPod and you don't have access to the primary computer, your only option is to restore the IPod, which will erase all music and data." If you need further assistance please feel free to follow up with a comment and i will be here to assist you. If this assisted you please feel free to rate the solution. thanks and have a great day.

I need to sync my nano to my mac, not my nephew's PC!

Well, if your nephew's computer is a Windows, that means you will have to restore your ipod back to factory settings to get it to work with your computer. Open itunes to the main ipod page. It should tell you that a Windows ipod has been detected in itunes and you will need to restore your ipod in order for it to work with your computer. Click ok on that message, or if that message does not appear, click restore on the ipod page. Then it should tell you that all of your information will be deleted. Click ok if you have all of the music backed up and after it restores, it should be working normally.

Ipod

my nephew was thrown into a stock tank by his friends, he had his ipod in his pocket... also did not work.  I brought it home left in my car on the floorboard, for 2 very hot days. Then remembered it was still in the car... not sure if the heat from the sun helped, but couldn't hurt
Brought it inside noticed the charger plug-in area had built up corrosion, carefully cleaned it with a dry swab, thin rag, and made sure all the plating was free of corrosion... earphone input, etc
then I held down the play button (top) + select (middle) button till the apple appeared on the screen.

p.s. it's been awhile, it may also be the stop and play or stop and select. if at first you don't succeed, you know the rest.  trying all of these options should not harm the ipod...  proceed with caution.
Long story, short. It is still working today.

IPod click wheel frozen

Try to restart the Ipod.

Hold the select button and the menu at the same time until you see the screen go off.

If still does not work then try to enter disk mode and see if it works.

Disk Mode:
Reboot the ipod via Select and menu, right away hold the select and play button and hold until disk mode comes on. Does the wheel work?

If still does not work then reboot the ipod again and let it reboot normal to go back in apple firmware. If all buttons are working and none of the above works, I would assume it is not software related.
