Question about Refrigerators

Open Question

I have a Samsung space icemaker RF267 series refrigerator. The unit is less than 2 years old. Last evening the icemaker started making this loud clicking noise almost as if the ice maker is trying to dump the load of ice in the ice tray. I was able to unload and reload the ice compartment last evening and the clicking stopped and ice was getting dispensed. However it started again this morning. Again I got it to stop but now it has started yet again.any thoughts on this? Am I under warranty?

I have a kenmore coldspot side by side model # 106.53662300.
The ice maker red light is blinking and it has made very little ice in the last 24 hours. What do you think the problem is?

SOURCE: Icemaker makes ice, but doesn't dump it.

If you have a steady blinking light when you open the door then the sensor is working. I these cases the problem is usually in a bad motor or thermostat in the icemaker. If you need I can give you instructions on how to change these parts.

SOURCE: LG french door with non working ice maker

Similar problem. Occasionally my ice maker goes on the fritz. Usually I can turn off the ice maker and place a piece of newspaper over the freezer holes for overnight and it starts making ice when I turn it back on. This time that didn't work so I unplugged it this morning for 3 hours and put all the stuff in coolers. I opened all the doors and removed the freezer bin (just the bin maa'm, not the frame) so I was sure the water lines inside the fridge doors and sides would unfreeze. Plus side is the Fridge got a good cleaning. I just heard my first ice drop about a 1/2 hour ago.

Kenmore coldspot 106 icemaker working fine but in the last week has started to make a loud buzz/humming sound when filling... is it the Solenoid, water fill valve or the ice maker motor ?

If you think it's only during the fill (20-30 seconds at the end of the cycle), it's probably the fill solenoid. If it were me, I'd let it go a couple of weeks and see if it quiets down on its own. There's nothing harmful about a solenoid humming, and you may find that better is the enemy of good when you wade into trying to fix it.
If you can't live with the noise, I'd suggest replacing the entire valve body and solenoid as a unit - you never know which part may be the source of the problem. It's only 2 water connections and 2 wires. You can buy the part online for $20 or less.

Water collects under the deli/meat tray of our Samsung RF267 side by side refrigerator and freezes there. Where does the water come from and how to resolve the problem? Help ALSO Our Samsung front...

The water is coming from a leaking water tank behind the deli/meat tray. It only leaks when you use the water dispenser. You will need to disassemble the deli drawer to get to the water tank and replace the water tank. FOR THE WASHER, call Samsung for service. You may have a control board problem.

Making a loud squeal or hum during

Sounds like a motor with bad bearings. In that unit it would be the water pump or condenser fan motor. If the sound is coming from inside the unit it is the water pump.

Ge refer not blowing cold

Hello mancoder,
Welcome

You said, your GE TBX 23Z refer has been working fine. moved it to assist in tile install. place back, plugged in starts to blow cool then after 2 hrs it blows room temp. It is clean dust free in under carriage and has plenty of air space. Fan blows very strong. I do hear a click and then 2 -4 seconds later another click. This continues every couple minutes. Sounds like poss the compressor is trying to engage? Not sure? It is older but a very nice unit and blows well, any ideas?

It sounds like the compressor to me!
in a fridge that is ten years old or more it is not worth the investment of putting good money in to bad.
The newer fridges use a lot less power and your utility bill will go down
It will pay for itself in only a few years!

Here is an article I just read that you may find useful and interesting!

Repair or replace?

When to pull the plug on your old refrigerator

It nearly always makes sense to undertake simple do-it-yourself repairs,
such as replacing a gasket on a refrigerator or a freezer.

Typically, you'll also find a troubleshooting section for more-serious problems
in the owner's manual.

Should you pay for a repair or buy a new model?
The answer depends mostly on the age of your refrigerator,
how much you bought it for,and the cost of the repair.

Follow these guidelines:

When a repair makes sense.

If your refrigerator is under warranty or less than four years old (three years for top-freezers),
paying for a repair makes sense.
Note that refrigerators under warranty might require service from a factory-authorized technician;
readers have found them on a par with independent repairers.

When a repair might be a wise choice.

If your refrigerator is out of warranty and is four to seven years old,
it might make sense to pay for a repair. Customers generally pay $100 to $200 for a repair.
But you might want to buy a new model even at this stage,
given that today's models are quieter and have added features.
Higher energy efficiency is another plus: Energy Star-qualified models made after April 28, 2008,
are 43 percent more efficient than conventional models built before 2001 and 56 percent
more efficient than those built before 1993.

When it pays to replace.

The repair costs more than half the price of a comparable new refrigerator.
Data also shows that it doesn't pay to fix a less-expensive top-freezer refrigerator
six or more years old or a bottom-freezer or side-by-side eight or more years old.

Thanks to better recycling programs, less than 10 percent
of a refrigerator you replace is likely to end up in a landfill.
