There are a number of situations that would cause an official to toss a center from a face-off. Here are the majority of the reasons a center can be tossed from a face-off.

~ The center did not place his stick or skates in the designated area.

~ The team took too much time in completing the line change.

~ The center moved/jumped prior to the official dropping the puck.

~ The center refused to put his stick down or position himself properly in the allotted time.

~ One of the players not taking the face-off moved into the face-off circle prior to the drop of the puck.

There are a few other situations which can cause a center to be ejected from a face-off. If it happens twice on the same face-off, the team will be assessed a minor penalty.

Hope this helps !!

There are two main types of air hockey tables: recreational (basic) tables and tournament (high-level) tables. Recreational tables come in different s, prices, and obviously, quality. Tournament tables on the other hand are 8 foot long and have the highest quality possible. What are the rules in official air hockey games?

In official air hockey games, there are basic USAA rules that the players need to play by: Players can stand anywhere around their side of the air hockey table (center), but cannot go to the sides. Players cannot touch the puck (palming). If any part of their body or clothes touches the puck, a "palming foul" is called. Players can hit the puck with every part of the mallet, besides the bottom part. There should be only one puck during gameplay. A player can use only one air hockey mallet. A player cannot place the mallet on the puck in order to slow it or stop it (topping). When the puck is on the center line, both players can strike it. Once the puck is in the player's side of the centerline, he/she has 7 seconds to strike it back. For more rules, check out these websites: http://www.justairhockeytables.com/air-hockey-tables/airhockeyrulesarticle.cfm, http://www.ehow.com/facts_4868311_official-air-hockey-rules.html, and http://www.sportssearchdata.com/articles/606/1/Basic-Rules-of-Air-Hockey/Page1.html.

What are the rules of Air Hockey?

Here are some basic rules as defined by the USAA:
  • A face-off or coin toss decides which player gets the first possession of the puck.
  • The first person to score 7 points by shooting the puck into the opponent's goal wins the game. When the puck breaks the horizontal plane inside the goal, a point is counted, whether or not captured by the electronic scoring device.
  • Once the puck is on a certain player's side of the center line, he/she has 7 seconds to hit the puck back across the center line. Otherwise a foul is committed and the opponent receives possession of the puck.
  • Placing one's mallet on top of the puck, known as topping, is a foul. Here the opponent receives possession of the puck.
  • A player cannot touch or strike the puck with any part of his/her body or with any object other than the mallet. Doing so causes a foul and possession changes hands.
  • If the puck is on a clear path into the goal and the player stops it with anything other than the mallet, this is goaltending. Here the opponent receives a free shot.
  • Hitting the puck when it is on the opposite side of the center line, or crossing the center line completely with one's mallet causes a foul. Here the opponent receives possession of the puck.
  • Red lines in the air hockey should not be crossed by the air hockey mallet. (Catalan Champion Chip)
  • If there is a red line on the goals, it means that you cannot keep the air hockey mallet behind the red line. (Catalan Champion Chip)
  • If the puck leaves the table, a foul is called on the player that caused the puck to go out of play due to offensive motion and the opposing player gets possession of the puck. Generally, when a player causes the puck to leave the table with a forward motion of the mallet, even defensively (known as charging), the foul is charged on them. An out of play foul results in the opponent receiving possession of the puck.
  • The players playing cannot touch the puck at any time during pl ay, but if one player scores they can put the puck in loser's side.

Which Air Hockey table should I buy?

If you want an approved for USAA tournaments then you can check out any of the 8 foot long Dynamo Air Hockey table, just stay away from the "Hot Flash" series.

In the "Hot Flash" Air Hockey tables the painted rails make the puck fly off a lot, and fluorescent table-top makes it hard to see the puck.

A new Dynamo table price varies from $1500 to 2500$ so you should take it into consideration.

Harvard air hockey scoing system

The controller is poorly designed and likely burned out. I am assuming you bought your's used. If it were new, you would see that each segment of the LEDs would burn out over time and stop displaying. I am rebuilding mine - I bought a microcontroller and and writing the programing from scratch. I have identified all of the pins on the controller and it will plug into all the cables on the bottom of the table. should have it done by New Years. Let me know, if it sounds like your problem. I can build an extra one - I'll check back here to see if you are interested.
