Open the door - look up to the top and you will see the screws holding the top on. once you remove the top there are 2 more screws on the inside that hold the front on.

check the slides that the drum rests on.

if it is not the slides then it may be the tub bearing at the rear of the tub.

there are drum rollers that support the drum and turn during rotation,FIRST UNPLUG the unit from POWER,then, remove the 2 bottom screws at the front cover and remove lower cover below the door, then remove 4 screws on front door cover 2 on each side and remove upper front and door, then remove 2 screws just under the top cover in front then release and remove drum belt from idler pulley by reaching under drum on right side by motor, then remove drum and 2 pulleys will be on rear of inside machine the other 2 will be on door panel, sometimes you can remove "c" CLIPS AND CLEAN HAIR AND LINT OUT AND lube with dry lubricant, but they are relatively inexpensive so replace all 4 rollers, check axles they turn on too and belt condition too amnd throughly clean out lint from innards too

Ge frontloader dryer is squeeking incessantly, high pitch squeek driving us all crazy. by manually turning the drum i can isolate the squeek, but cannot see anything wrong. does it need to be taken...

There is a teflon bearing that holds the back of the drum you will need to replace. To get to it remove the top cover, take off the control panel, remove the front cover, take off the belt, then take the drum out, ususlly by lifting it up as you pull it foward. While have it all apart I would reccomend replacing the teflon glides at the front that the drum rides on.

I have a Kenmore Stacked washer/dryer that was given to me. The dryer has a pretty loud sqweek. Is this normal?

A loud squeek is normally caused by the tension pully or the rear drum rollers seizing. Remove the two screws holding the inspection panel between the washer and the dryer. Remove the panel. Slide a 1/2 inch paint scraper between the top and the cabnet front and releave the spring loaded clips that hold the top on and remove the top. Loosen the two screws at the bottom of the dryer front panel. Looking down inside the front panel remove the two screws holding the front panel to the cabnet. Mark and remove the wires going to the door switch and remove the front panel. At the rear of the dryer remove the inspection plate at the bottom of the dryer and remove the belt from the spring loaded tension pulley. Go the the front of the dryer and remove the dryer drum and belt. Now you can check to see if the rollers are worn or seized and check to see if the tension pulley is seized.
Purches a kit that includes a new belt, drum rollers and tension pulley and replace all. Reassemble the dryer in the reverse as to how you took it apart.

I have GE profile Model DPSR473EW with loud squeak when drum turns ? I also need to learn how to access the drum etc...

I have experienced two problems with "loud squeeks" with the DPSR473EW. First, if you take the top off (open door, remove two screws under top door lip releasing the top), then.., remove two small screws (inside up high - one on each side) holding the front panel/door assembly on. Pull the front panel/door assy away from the main unit - can't seperate due to some wires near the blower. On the door/front panel assy..., you will see four "teflon slides" that fit into a plastic semi-circular assy (the drum rides on those four teflon slides). Most of the time, this is where the squeeks come from - I've seen them worn thru..., and the drum riding on the plastic (just order the teflon slides - qty 4 - WE1M333). If the plastic piece that the slides fit into is worn, replace it - WE2M26 (top bearing). This should do it. If the slides look OK (so the squeek hasn't been fixed), the other place for a squeek is...., the back bearing. This bearing is basically a male rotating plastic sleeve running in a metal female hole. I have seen those wear thru the plastic bushing..., causing lots of noise. To inspect that bearing, you will need to a) remove the belt (plenty of instructions on the internet), then b)remove the drum..., then..., you can inspect that back bearing (two pieces - one piece on the back of the drum, the female piece mounted on the heater shroud.. If you need to replace that bearing, or one half of it - you can order pn WE25M40 - it will have both pieces. Good Luck

Elec. dryer squeeks...squeeks...squeeks...replaced belt, did not improve. Could it be the plastic drum slides, I only say this because they look really worn?

ALWAYS UNPLUG YOUR DRYER BEFORE STARTING ANY REPAIRS

Your problem sounds like drum rollers have flat spots on them or in need of lubrication

If you have a front loading machine,

Remove the electrical console that holds the timer switch, start switch, etc. from the top of the dryer.
Be REAL CAREFUL not to knock any of the wires off of the timer switch. Then remove the top of the dryer.
Remove the front of the dryer. This will expose the drum and belt. Remove the drum and belt and this will expose the drum rollers, idler arm pulley and motor.
Now is a good time to check the belt to check the belt condition for wear.
Be sure to note the route of the belt, this will come in handy when you go to reinstall the belt.
Check your rollers for flat spots, if they have flat spots on them replace them.
If the rollers don't have flat spots on them then they probably only need lubrication. Lubricate the shaft of the rollers with a good grade of machine oil such as 3 in One oil. Reassemble the dryer, plug back in. This should solve your noise problem.
I will include these two websites for parts and further help:
http://www.partselect.com/
http://www.appliancepartspros.com/index.aspx
Both also have chat assistance 24/7.
Good Luck,
I hope this helps

Dryer squeaks when turned on, recently is getting louder and louder as drum is turning. Is it worth getting fixed, it's six years old

The squeek is probably the front 'bearing' which is generally made of felt.

Pop the top, pull off the front, remove the drum. Clean the felt or replace it.

A better alternative is to turn up the radio so you cant hear the squeek.

If you do go to this trouble, you may want to replace the belt while you have it apart.

Personally, id let it squeek. It may be annoying but on the ohter hand, you know when it is operating and when it is finished now.

My dryer drum sparks when i push on it

You have loose or shorted wiring in the dryer. Unplug the dryer.Raise the top lid. Remove the screws on the top right and left inside the dryer to remove the front panel. Disconnect the door switch wires and set the panel aside. Reach in under the drum and remove the drive belt from the motor and pulley. Remove the drum. Inspect the wiring visible inside. Remove the rear panel from the dryer and inspect all wiring and thermostats and fuse relays.Remove the terminal cover where the cord connects and inspect all wiring there for broke or loose. Open the control panel and inspect all wires there for broken or loose. Repair any wiring found defective and replace any parts found defective.

Ge dryer squeeking

HI,

For a pictorial troubleshooting please open the link:

http://www.applianceaid.com/my_own_dryer.html

You will be looking at the front glides that the drum rides on, the glides are probably gone and the drum is rubbing on the plastic glide holder....if it is damaged will need to replace the front drum bearing/glide holder and all of the glides, usually about 4 of them.

If it is the drum front glides the noise will be from the front area, right behind the front panel at the top. If the noise is from the center rear of the dryer your drum bearing is gone, need to replace this also if you have to take this dryer apart..

Thanks

GE Profile dryer Model# DPSQ475ET4WW

You posted under a DPGT705EC and then a DPSQ475ET4WW, so I am going to guess you have the later one. If it has not been squeaking for an extended time you can get by with just changing the rear drum sleeve bearing (WE3X75). To do this, use a putty knife to push in on the 2 clips about two inches in from the sides at the seam where the front panel meet the dryer top, allowing top to swing up and back. Remove screw holding front panel to side panel near top just under where the top was. Tilt front panel forward and lift off bottom pegs. Swing to side (you don't have to remove wires). Pull drum forward about 6 inches. (you don't even have to remove the belt.) Change sleeve at center back of drum. Make sure to inspect the front drum support slides WE1M481dark ones and WE1M333 white ones (about 1/2 inch x 2.5 inch strips at the top of the front panel which support the front of the drum), as about the time the rear bearing goes, these may be wearing also, especially the one on the left side. You may have to contact GE to obtain an owner's manual (but there is nothing in them about how to service the dryer, just installation and settings, etc.) Parts can be obtained from just about any appliance service company or appliance retailer which does service in your area.

My dryer squeeks when running

Hi, I've had a similar problem (I think) on my MDG7400 dryer. There was a cyclical squeak, metal against metal. It turned out to be the screw that holds the drum paddle to the drum. It had worked itself loose and was scraping against the inside wall of the dryer. Remove the front door lift the top, and tighten 'er up. Hope that helps.
