If you have the Energizer Hard Case Lantern TUF4D1, simply grasp the whole front of the lamp piece (including the rubber cover), and twist in a counter-clockwise direction to remove. Then squeeze together the two black tabs and pull the battery compartment out to replace the batteries.

Step 1.
Start by locating the battery compartment which will be on opposite end of the lamp. The compartment is covered with a protective rubber, tire-tread-like surface.

Step 2.
Twist the cover of the battery compartment counterclockwise to unscrew. Do not unscrew any of the screws on the sides of the spotlight, you need only to use your hand to turn and take off the battery casing cover and expose the batteries.

Step 3.
Remove the old batteries taking note of the orientation of the batteries in relation to positive and negative polarity.

Step 4.
Install replacement batteries, making sure to replace the batteries using the correct polarity.

Step 5.
Replace the cover of the battery compartment by putting it back into place and turning clockwise until secure.

  • Step 2 Twist the cover of the battery compartment counterclockwise to unscrew. Do not unscrew any of the screws on the sides of the spotlight, you need only to use your hand to turn and take off the battery casing cover and expose the batteries.
  • Step 3 Remove the old batteries from the hard case spotlight's battery compartment. Take note of the orientation of the batteries in relation to positive and negative polarity. Check for any corrosion of the battery terminals and clean with a small amount of vinegar, if necessary. Allow vinegar to air dry before replacing the batteries.
  • Step 4 Install 4 new C size batteries into the spotlight. Make sure to replace the batteries using the correct polarity. Rechargeable batteries are not recommended for this particular spotlight.
  • Step 5 Replace the cover of the battery compartment by putting it back into place and turning clockwise until secure.

Energizer WeatherReady lantern came with batteries; worked once. Can't unscrew the top to change batteries. Possible battery corrosion? Is there a workaround fix?

Mix water and baking soda together until baking soda is dissolved.
Take a small baking pan or a bowel with a flat bottom and place the lantern in a vertical position, bottom down and slowly pour in the baking soda solution so the solution is 1/4" above the battery lid so the solution can soak into the threads of the lid. Let sit overnight. Next morning, slowly lift the lantern out of the solution without tipping it keeping it vertical, and slowly unscrew the lid over the sink. Keep in mind there will be solution inside the lantern when you first open it, so be careful not to tip it until you dry out the inside.

Change the battery in the hard case

Start by unscrewing the lense cap retaining ring. Pinch and remove the clip from the negative (-) spring on the battery. Remove battery and slide new one in. Reconnect wire connector in between spring on the negative side of the battery. Note: some lanterns have a v'd plastic ear on the back of the reflector so when you go to screw the reflector back on, align the v'd ear with the plastic bar inside the case under the handle and slide it together until you can screw the retainer ring on.

I can't figure how to change the battery on this hardcase lantern took off the rubber surrounding the lantern face, but nothing else seems to come off without unscrewing, But seems like those sre rivits...

I've owned this flashlight for years. In the comment above, ignore the instruction to remove the rubber casing around the lamp area. Simply grasp the whole front of the lamp piece (including the rubber cover), and twist in a counter-clockwise direction to remove. Then squeeze together the two black tabs and pull the battery compartment out to replace the batteries.

How do I change the bulb of the 6V Eveready Lantern?

If it is the yellow floating lantern you have to remove the black plastic stub on the underside of the reflector using needlenose pliers to wiggle and slightly pull until it releases and the bulb will come out.

The front outer rubber cover is removeable. Once you take it off with your fingers, the front unscrews revealing a two piece battery case. Squeeze the top flanges together and lift out, then the battery case shown in the box just lifts out.

Got new Energizer Hard Case Flashlight model IN421

Well much to our surprise the easy way is the best way. There are no instruction on the package nor on Energizer website but after googling we found reviews of the flashlight and how long it took others to find out how to put the batteries in. Although the base is square...it DOES turn and voila....comes off to insert batteries.
