Question about HP Compaq Presario SR5350F Desktop PC Intel Pentium Dual Core Desktop Processor E2160, 2GB RAM, 360GB

Display driver problem

I have a Compaq SR5350F, bought 3 months ago, and I have Vista. Every so often, the screen goes blank, then comes back on and I get a message that says, "Display driver has stopped running, but has recovered." WTF??

Try this:

START/ right click Computer goto Manage/ click Services

Here are the services I have stopped and disabled. You can right click each service and goto properties to disable them.

readyboost
superfetch
print spooler - must be re-enabled and started if you use a printer
server
computer browser
secondary logon
security center
windows error reporting
windows search
windows firewall - must be re-enabled and started to use windows firewall

    If your display card is an NVidia, you may want to try this instead..

    Go to windows/system32/drivers and rename nvlddmkm.sys to

    nvlddmkm.sys.old. Go to the nvidia directory and find the file nvlddmkm.sy_

    and copy it to windows/system32. Using the cmd window (DOS box) type EXPAND.EXE nvlddmkm.sy_ nvlddmkm.sys.
    When the expansion is complete, copy the new nvlddmkm.sys to windows/system32/drivers and restart the computer.

    or, you could even try this..

    go to the folder:

    c:\nvidia\winvista\driver version number\

    then open setup, and install the drivers

New graphics card problems with my Presario SR5350F...


Make sure you plug in any auxiliary power cables are are required for the video card.

Is the card used. Has it ever shown signs of life?

Go into windows via integrated graphics and install the latest drivers.

After that I would go into your bios with integrated graphics and turn off intergrated graphics. Look around if there's like a setting that's like switch to PCIx graphics or something. After the restart try to use your monitor though your video card.

Screen goes blank after hibernation - Dell Inspirion 530 Vista


Turn off vista hybrid sleep and hibernation mode. It causes more problems then it helps.

Screen turns blank all of sudden and works normal after switching of the system for 1 hr or so.


You could have a defective screen - a defective inverter or a CCFL lamp.
To determine if you have a LCD screen or video card problem, read this and follow the instructions.

Defective CCFL backlight, it may have the following symptom:
  • Screen flashs on red/pink and off.
  • Picture stays on in red and slowly be come normal.
  • Picture flickering with dim display or appear black.
  • Picture flickering on and off.
All these symptoms indicate that the LCD backlight lamp (CCFL Lamp) has reached the end of the life and all you need to do is replacing the CCFL lamp

Connect an external monitor to your laptop and power it up, if you see the normal Windows images then the video card and laptop is OK and the problem is definitely the backlight.

Dim image and/or dark display on the laptop's LCD screen indicates a faulty LCD backlight and it could be the inverter that supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp or it is the CCLF lamp is nearly burnt out or burnt out, most likely this is the case.
The inverter can be replaced easily but the CCLF lamp is more time consuming and requires soldering skills.

Compaq blank screen


I specialize in repairing these particular compaq units and they all have the most terrible quality just being thrown together, but if someone took the time to inspect everything inside the computer and make sure it was properly connected and organized and functional then there would be no problems. Therefore I get like 3 of these computers a month.
