Question about Dell Inspiron 1200 14.1 XGA LCD Display-320-4222 (3204222) CD-ROM Drive

1 Answer

My dell inspiron 1200 does not seem to hibernate or have a standby mode. The standby mode is not highlighted as an option when I go to the shutdown/restart screen. When I close the laptop it doesn't turn off, but when I open the computer it won't turn back on.

I've done that. I think the problem may have to do with my monitor. After I've shut my laptop, when I open it the monitor stays black. Also, standby is grayed out when I look at the shutdown screen.

    Hi there,

Thanks for trying to help me, but I've done a ton of stuff in the power options field and none of it seems to help. I'm wondering if it's something with my monitor. The monitor goes dark after I shut the laptop, but then doesn't come back up when I reopen. I've tried all types of awake, hibernate or standby options and it doesn't work. Also, standby is not an option when I try to shutdown or restart.

  • Hi, you can go into the "Control Panel" and make changes to the Power Saving Options, or Energy Saving. First from the "Start Menu" in the [Start Search] window, type: power, next scroll to find the "Short-cut' listing for {Power Options}, click on it to go to the next window. You'll be able to adjust the "Power Options," (Sleep, "Awake," or Hiberate, if available). "Let me know how things worked out for you by giving a "helpful rating"

Dell Inspiron going to hibernate when its not set on hibernate

The hibernate mode is one of microsoft's worst idea because it often corruped window files forcing the user to reload windows from scratch. When you were in power options did you also turn off standby? and set it to never on the list.

My computer is booting then after short time it return to standby mode then the fan of processor rotate at very high speed and signal is remove from monitor

Seems like the PC has Hibernation mode turned on. After 1 hour windows will put the PC and hardrives to sleep to conserve power. If you want to disable it, here how:
  1. Open Control Panel.
  2. Double-click the Power Options icon.
  3. Within the Power Options Properties window, click the Hibernate tab.
  4. Uncheck the "Enable hibernation" checkbox to disable the feature, or check the box to enable it. This window also displays the total space required for hibernation.

My dell inspiron E1405 screen turns off by itself it turns on fine but after a couple min. The screen turns off but the laptop is still on

Its going to sleep mode after 5 mins or going to standby if you are not working on it. you can on it by moving mouse or pressing any key on keyboard if it gone to sleep mode .You can press power button to make it on if its gone to standby. To disable this Right click on any empty space on desktop and go to screen saver tab and click on Power button . There in Power Scheme tab , make all options to NEVER and press Apply and OK.Now it will work fine. Options are turnoff monitor, turn off hard disk , System standby , system hibernates etc

Type cmd into the start menu search box, and use Ctrl+Shift+Enter to open in administrator mode. You can also right-click the item in the menu and choose Run as Administrator. From the command prompt window type the following command
powercfg /hibernate on
restart your computer and it will take effect.

When I take the computer out of the standby mode

Try this:
  1. Update the BIOS and Video driver to the most current on http://support.dell.com
  2. Disable the screen saver
  3. Enable HIBERNATE instead of standby in Power settings, set the LCD to go off in 10 minutes, HDD to 15 and Hibernate in 20.
Select Shutdown, Hibernate
then try and restart

If no GO, disconnect all peripheral items except KB

Try hibernate again and restart.

If all works OK, add items back one at a time till you find item causing issue. If no go, replace power supply if issue still occurs, replace MB

Where is the Sleep Button to put D-I'n-1000 into hibernation

There is no SLEEP BUTTON per se on and Inspiron 1000 system.

Enabling Hibernate is easy enough though. Go to Control Panel, POWER OPTIONS. In the power options window, click the hibernate tab and ensure the ENABLE HIBERNATION checkbox is checked., then click the ADVANCED TAB. Look for the "When I close the lid of my computer option and select HIBERNATE.

Since that system doesn't have a SLEEP BUTTON, that option may be listed, but is of no use.
