Question about Apple MacBook Mac Notebook

1 Answer

Mac 13in notebook not turning on completely

There is an error message when you turn it on that contains a notebook icon with a question mark in the middle of it. Can I fix this myself or do I need to bring it in to be repaired?

It sounds like the system has corrupted. What I would do is to get your instal disk to boot up holding down the c key on your keyboard. Once you have booted up go to the file menu and run disk utility to verify and repair the hard drive. Then go to the instal menu and install a fresh system remembering to preserve the users data so you do not wipe anything. Hopefully this will work.

Did you try rebooting while pressing the trackpad? This should give you a list of available hard-disks.... If it doesn't... Then it should be a hard-disk problem...

Mac Notebook

Hi there
One of the easiest questions I've had to answer.

From what you say you do not need a high end spec.
A 13in macbook should suite you fine. In terms of cost it is the cheaper mac. The screen size can be a hassle but all you need to do is buy a separate monitor to complement the 13in screen. So when you are at you desk you run dual monitors and when you present you use the macbook.

I'd just recommend to upgrade the ram and hard drive. Presentations such as powerpoint are memory hungry.

? mark and face icon needgo's down

It means the internal hard drive has failed or cannot be recognized. You can confirm this by putting a boot disk in the cd drive. If the computer starts up from that, it cannot see your HD. Also, try restarting the Mac and holding down the option key until you get the blue screen with 2 arrows. This is called start up manager. Any volume that your computer can start from will be here to choose from. Your internal HD at the very least should be there. One more thing, after turning on the computer, put your ear on the bottom leftcorner, to the left of the trackpad and keep an ear for abnormal clicking, or something that sounds like a repeatitous pattern. All of these signs point to a failed internal drive.
