Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

I bought a DWL-G710 D-LinkG Range Extender to boost the signal from my WBR 2310 D-Link router. I cannot get it to connect to my wireless laptop that does not have a D-Link wireless adapter. Any suggestions on how to make this thing work or if it is worth trying to make it work?

My desktop is hard wired to my router. My laptop has a wireless connection to my network and show the 2310 router as an active device but he signal strength is poor. I configured the D-710 according to instructions with an ethernet cable to the router. It appears to be configured properly because the correct lights on an on the G-710. I then disconnect it ffrom the router and move it closer to the laptop. The light on the G-710 do not change, but laptop does not recognize the G-710 as a device. I am running Vista on both the desktop and the laptop.

Let me know if you need more information, although I don't know if there is much more I can add.

    Thanks for the help.

It sounds like your wireless adapter may be disabled. There should either be a switch/button on the outside of the laptop or a function key on the keyboard to turn the wireless on and off. check your laptop to ensure you turn on the wireless on it, with this, your laptop should recognize the wireless.

    Take care.

I don't think that is the problem. My laptop is recognizing my wireless router because I have internet access, but that signal is porr and I purchsaed the G710 to boost that signal. I have a wireless connection to the 2310, but not to the G710.

Can you give it one more shot?

Try to configure your new router and you have to reconfigure the Range extender to tally with the new router. The IP Address that the range extender should have should depend on the DHCP server of your router that provides the IP Address.

No internet connection via DWL-G710

Your extender may not be able to talk to the router. Make sure you have set default gateway in extender to IP of the router. Turn off encryption first. Check the router if extender shows up in active client list or active mac address list.

the IP address must be different on the router & extender but use the same subnet mast. The extender has to have the gateway set as the IP address on the router.

Move the repeater directly next to the router, connect to the repeater with a laptop/desktop and enter the configuration utility, see if you are even able to establish a "signal" status. If not, you may have a defective product or extreme amounts of emi.
