Garmin Nuvi Firmaware Update Complete, Unable to catch satellite signal
Garmin nuvi200 was working fine and all of a sudden started getting following pop ups repeatedly and since then the GPS unit is not able to catch the satellite signal.
"Updating GPS Firmware 1%" This is followed by another pop up stating
"GPS Firmware Update Complete". It can't "acquire satellites" either
I am still not able understand, how it started firmware update as I have never connected it to PC before. Is this set sophisticated enough to do firmware update from the satellite? :)
I tried reset on Garmin. After that, also tried with installing new latest firmware through Garmin Webupdater, But no results.
As soon as I start Garmin unit I get above popups. Please Help me.
My Garmin Nuvi 200W suffers from the same problem. Only difference is the unit still works. It is only an irritation. I have installed the latest software update, but still no change. Have reported to Garmin on this, but has yet to get a response.
I get that issue on my StreetPilot C550. It's is consistently followed by an inability to receive Satellite. Here's how I can tell on my unit:
When I get the Updating Firmware, 1%, Done message, the satellite reception indicator always shows absolutely nothing.
If I power it off, pull the car charger, wait, replace the car charger, turn the unit on, the indicator shows one red block on the signal strength indicator.
When I see the red block, I know I'll get reception. No red block, no amount of waiting will help... I have to completely power-cycle the unit to get a signal lock.
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.

Good explanation you gave. More than most do. Make sure you have the latest nuvi "Firmware" then update the maps. I would start with making sure you have the latest WebUpdater on your computer before you proceed with any updates.
If a nuvi 200 is has an older version of
system software glitches may occur. The device may be missing letters
or have jumbled letters or displaying duplicate letters or strange symbols on
the address screen. To correct this you will need to update the system software
of your nuvi. You can easily do this by using Garmin’s WebUpdater
Try performing a reset of the unit. Hold down the bottom right of the touchscreen and turn the unit on. It will ask you whether you want to reset allk data. Choose yes and try again. This should solve your problem. Hope this helps.
So what happens when you connect it to the PC?
Make sure no sd cards are installed while you do this.
download and install web updater, run it it gets to a screen where it looks for the gps, plug the usb cable into the GPS (no USB hubs please!!!) Make sure it detects the GPS before you continue. Select the updates you need (don't install all the languages !!) after this is done the program will report the downloads are on the garmin, unplug the unit and it will reboot and whilst rebooting it will install the updates....so don't touch it until it reboots again and displays the regular screen....and make sure the batery is fully charged before you do this...!
