Question about Dell Inspiron 530s Desktop Computer

1 Answer

The computer will start and the monitor will only go so far then goes black. I have changed monitors to see if it was a bad monitor but it did the same on that one. Could it be the Video Card?

Black screen after changing resolution

Try setting your resolution back to the way it was and see what happens.

Maybe your monitor or video card is bad.

To isolate the problem try connecting another monitor to the computer. Borrow a monitor from a neighbor, friend, relative or co-worker and connect it to the computer. If the Borrowed monitor displays and works ok, then your original monitor is bad. If the Borrowed monitor does the same thing as your original monitor, then the video card inside the computer is bad.

Monitor goes blank less than a second after turning on.

Sounds like either there is a bad connection from the computer to the monitor, or the monitor has a faulty power regulator, causing the monitor to overheat prematurely, and shut off.

try using a different monitor, borrow one if you have to, if the monitor works on your computer, then it simply means you need a new monitor. As far as the computer shutting down, it may be recording the bad monitor as an error in the loading process and automatically shutting down.

Monitor goes black

Sorry to have to tell you this, but this is common in LCD monitors. The reason that it is going black when it boots is for one of two reasons. You either have a bad power supply that powers your LCD or your LCD's backlight is blown. These can be repaired or you can purchase a new one. But if it goes black 9 times out of 10 is because the backlight is bad. These can be repaired!

Monitor suddenly goes black

Is this monitor and LCD flat Panel? If so this is due to a bad power supply, an inverter board going bad or LCD backlight bulb blown. When the backlight goes bad it gets just enough power to start up, but when it is on for a long period of time it goes black because the bulb is not stable enough to hold the charge because it is going bad. These bulbs can be changed, but they also can be costly!

Acer AL1916W 19" LCD Monitor Blacking out

This is not a setting or driver issue! The best way to determine this is to connect the monitor up to another device to see if the same thing occurs! If it does then your backlight is in bad shape and it is starting to go bad. It will generate enough power to display some images, but when it continues to be on for a certain peirod of time it goes black. This is common when the backlight is starting to go bad!

Sounds like a possible bad pixel. I would power the machine down, reseat the graphics card, reconnect the dvi link, and reset the PRAM.
