Check your BIOS setup for the SATA interface settings. If it's set to "Native" or something to that effect, change it to "Compatible" or "IDE" or similar, and try installing XP again.
As a last resort, you may need to supply SATA drivers for your motherboard (unpacked, with all the individual files visible) during the setup, when it says something like "press [something] to supply 3rd party device driver". The problem is, that Windows expects it on a diskette...

To recognise the SATA HDD in your MSI PM8M -V. First enter the bios menu, go to Integrated Peripherals, Then VIA on Chip IDE then on SATA mode Select IDE instead of RAID. There you go. your SATA HDD will now work like a IDE and it will now be recognised as IDE. you can now use it.a regular drive

    Enjoy!!

Displays no hard drive found wen installing win xp

You have to go to BIOS setup, find HDD setup, and change the value to the other one (there are only two possibilities). That will fix your problem. The problem is caused by the fact that the lap top was designed for vista, not XP. and the lap top contains SATA HDD. when installing XP pre-installation doesn't have SATA drivers, so your OS can not see the HDD. Change it in BIOS, and you trouble is gone

I am tring to install win XP with sata drive and

Make sure it is listed in your system CMOS before starting the XP install. Make sure cables are correct, and the drives are not turned off in CMOS. Some setup will allow you to set the drive types to AUTO, so you can also try that.

I have a sata hdd and i want to install winxp sp2 and now during partition message display how can i solve it..????

I have experenced this before. Its because the XP install you have does not have sata drivers compatable with your drive. Two possibilities.
1. sometimes with the BIOS you can change the Sata settings so that XP can see it during setup.
2. Download the sata controller drivers and during the setup. it prompts you to add extra drives with F6.

Downgrading from vista to xp sp2

I know this problem, The HDD is a SATA disk, win XP setup cannot identify a SATA controller on it's own you need to load the driver (from a disk) so you may need to download it first. I think this is the correct link http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=ob-51521-1&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&product=3369431&os=228&lang=en extract the files and burn to a CD or Floppy then run win XP setup by booting from CD you should see in the begining of win XP setup from CD it prompt you to press (I think) F2 to add RAID or SCSI Controllers, (this prompt is at the bottom of the screen) Then follow the propmts to load from the disk you made earlier. you should be able to select the controller from a list. (short list) you should then be able to continue and hopefully Win XP setup should now be able to see your HDD and give you choices about which partition (as per normal) you want to remove all partitions before installing winXP (you can then make whatever partitions you wish) Hope this helps
