TV turns off by itself & won't turn back on til... (by 6 users)

posted by Wes S on Apr 18, 2008

I've had the Panasonic 50" Plasma TV TH-42PX75U for 2 months & now its starting to shut off on its own (no picture or sound, completely off) after an hour or two. The red light in the lower left corner just blinks & won't let me turn tv back on until I unplug it for a few seconds, then plug it back in. Even if I wait a whole day I have to unplug it, then plug it back in. If I unplug it, then plug it back in & turn it on seconds after, it will stay on for a few minutes, then shut off again. Help!! Spent way too much money on this thing for it to fail on me!!

Last night while watching a movie, my plasma went black! I noticed that the red light just kept blinking, but I couldn't shut it off completely with my remote nor the button on the plasma. I've unplugged it and plugged it back in, but get the same results. I just a had technician come and replace the power supply two days ago due to a high-pitched sound... coincidence??? I'm without a tv until Tuesday and today is Thursday!

I have a 47 inch flat screen Panasonic. Never any problems, I have had it for about 5 years. My wife was blow drying her hair in the bathroom and suddenly the television (bedroom) went out as if someone turned it off. I plug it into different outlets and it stays on for meer seconds then won't turn on unless the socket is changed. I don't know how to open the front mesh part to try and look at the control board without really forcing the tight sides open. Frustrated!

Well, first your model number is the 42 inch, but I digress...

I had a similar problem with a Viewsonic 27 inch, with the blinking power light on a failed power-up. It turned out that replacing the power transformer was the ticket. However, as I have the 50 inch Panasonic plasma, I know that the transformer is built into the set itself. I'd still suggest that this is what needs replacing though, as this is different from a set being on but having no picture.
