SOURCE: Hot air coming out of back
portable air conditioners mainly have two hoses one hose is exhaust thats the one that is blowing hot air. the one pulling is return.. the hot air blowing out should be exhausted to the outside. the blowing air needs a hose and to be laid out a window the back should have model and serial maybe product number. the two holes are either 4 inch or three inch and most portable units other than hand me downs come with a window frame that allows the hot exchanged air to go outside and cooler air to be used for heat exchange.

The problem with window units and any service tech will tell you it cost more to repair than you can buy at Walmart or home depot. Unless you know someone who can charge it for you. Window units are a sore subject. A 200 dollar window unit might cost 200 dollars to charge system. SORRy rusty

The unit has to lean backward to let the water run out. It sounds like it is too level or leaning forward too much. There should be an adjusting screw in back that you can lower and it should work fine.

SOURCE: Unit not blowing exhaust!!!
http://safemanuals.com/brand-user-guide-instructions-owner-manual/MAYTAG, this may help you locate the issue. there may have been some degris that is keeping the blower cage from turning, or the cage may be damaged.

Could be several things. Make sure evap coil is clear. Use a garden hose if you need to for the mud in the back. If both coils are (clean evap and condenser) Then it probally is short on refrigerant.
