Hi,
It is always a good idea to take pictures of each removal step to make reassembly easier.

Remove cover on the pull rope housing. Locate the flywheel which the pull cord wraps around. Remove screws or bolts that attach flywheel on the housing unit. Caution, be careful on recoil spring position. Locate hole on flywheel (side view) in which the original cord was feed through. Feed replacement into hole and tie a single knot. Reattach assembly.

These are the instrument you will used:

  • Screwdriver
  • Rag
  • Metal brush
  • Detergent
  • Gas
  • Fuel line
  • Fuel filter
Thanks for contacting Fixya.

Problem is getting the housing off that covers the flywheel. Once I finally took every cover off, it won't slide past the shaft to access the flywheel. It takes a 5/8 open end wrench on the shaft, used a screw driver to try and hold the thing in place and have broken 2 aluminum fins so far without loosening the shaft a bit. Had to use a 20 Torx screwdriver to loosen the 4 bolts holding the housing on .... after I had disassembled the whole long flex shaft that goes down to the cutting head. One simple little cord replacement and it appears that I might have to purchase a whole new weed trimmer! Argghhhhh!

The string on my spool ran out.

• Turn off the trimmer and remove the battery
• Press the release tabs on the line spool cover and remove the cover by pulling it straight off. replacement spool is AF-100
• Lift the spool of nylon line out of the hub and clear any broken line and debris
• In case of jams and tangled line unwrap about one foot (30cm) of line to ensure that it is undamaged. If it is OK rewind it and insert the line end through the eyelet in the spool hub.
• Pull the line through the hole to maintain tension while placing the
spool down into the hub with the notched side exposed.
• Press the spool down GENTLY and rotate it until you feel it drop into place. (When in place, the spool will turn a few degrees left and right freely.)
• Snap the spool cover back on.

How do you get the drive coupling off of a snapper

there is a small torx or star headed screw down inside the nose of the clutch behind where the drive cable goes in, you will usually need to hold the flywheel firmly in order to break to screw loose

Engine runs then quits

You may have a small air leak at the carb, sometimes found at the bulb primer. This allows the engine to stop picking up fuel due to sucking air into the fuel line. If you re-prime, it will run again for a short period?

I inherited a Ryobi 14'' Electro Hornet, but do not know how to change the trimmer line - can you help?

If it is a duel line trimmer then:

Cut two separate pieces of string, about 7 ft. each.

Stick the end of the line in the hole on the inside of spool.

Wind clockwise onto spool, putting the line that is closest to the ground on first.

Once you have winded this piece on, lock the last 4 inches of line through the slits on spool.

Repeat process for second piece of line, locking the last 4 inches in slot opposite the other locked in piece.

Put the spool on the trimmer, feeding the end of lines through either hole on trimmer.

Before you push the spool all the way on, pull the strings out of the locked position.

If it is a single line trimmer: Then just wind a single piece of string clockwise onto spool. This may need to be longer than 7ft.
