Question about Cameras

2 Answers

I received a Canon PowerShot SD870IS Digital ELPH as a present for Christmas. Unfortunately, my apartment caught fire three weeks ago. My Camera was in its case. the case is burnt on the outside and the camera looked dirty on the outside. It seems to be working but I am just worried that there might be some more damage in the inside. Shall I send it to Canon for an overhaul? What do you suggest? I cleaned the outside but I am still not sure. Please help!

Hi,

If it is not under warranty and the camera is working good and your not facing any problems then i believe that you don't need to send it for a service.
If it is still under warranty then please go ahead. The service will be free of charge anyways so there is no need too worry.

I will post some ways to protect your cam from dust and sand..

Goodluck..

To protect your digital camera from water, humidity and dust - add a
roll of cardboard around the lens, then slide the camera body inside a
condom (non-lubricated), also slip a packet of silica-gel to absorb
    moisture and tie the knot.

Best of all, you can still shoot pictures or video while it's inside
the pouch though the quality may not be perfect. Underwater photography
anyone ? More details at Instructables.

A similar method can be used to protect mobile phones while you're inside the swimming pool.

See how the camera behave, at the fist sign of failure send it to repair mentioning the fire damage

If the camera is is insured send it back to Canon for a complete checkup. If it is under guaranty, I don'think they will cover the expenses for fire damage, you should not mention it, If it was in a burnt box as described the camera should been examined.
Dust and ashes can obstruct the lens blow the lens with air, that is the minimum you can do.

How to keep my shutter open for at least 2 seconds on canon powershot elph 115 is camera

The Elph 115 doesn't have manual shutter speeds so you can't set it yourself. If there isn't a menu setting for night time shooting the best I can suggest is to shoot three images, one of each stage and combine them in a photo editing program like Photoshop or the free, open source GIMP program. (Google GIMP open source for links).

I have a canon powershot SD400 elph. Camera menu

I'm guessing you bought a new 4GB SDHC card. Although it looks exactly the same as a standard SD card, the format the card uses is very different. Unfortunately your camera was designed before the SDHC format came out. Sorry, but a SDHC card will not work with your camera.

You'll need to use standard SD cards (usually those 2GB or less). But if you really want to use a 4GB card, do a Google search for 4GB SD "non HC", with the non HC in quotes. Believe Transcend makes one.

Canon PowerShot SD 630 Digital Elph "Memory Card Error"

Hi,
I'm sorry to tell that PowerShot SD 630 does not support SDHC cards over 2 gig.
If you want the camera to take a card over 2 gig then you are stuck standard SD cards.
The other camera does support the card because it's a higher model.

Regards.

Flash will not fire on Canon SD780 IS Elph

The flash circuit is defective. As it's only a couple weeks old, recommend just exchanging it for another from your place of purchase. You shouldn't be attempting repair while its under warranty.
