To be able to scan a picture from your printer, your printer I suppose has a scan. Connect the printer to your system and power on the printer and system. I also want to assume that the printer driver and scanner software have been install. Face the picture you want to scan down on the scanner bed, lunch the scanner software and save the picture to the folder provided of choose a location to save the picture. If you can see the scan software and you are using windows 7, go to devices and printer and luch the scanner from there or you can click start, all prorams, windows fax and scan.
