There might be something wrong with the connection between the light to your main board. You can open the chase and see whether there are broken wiring between the front pane of your machine and some ports on your main board.

Dvd recorder in standy wont work - blue standby light showing!

The main power supply board has the fault. It might be replaced. It is best to replace as card basis, rather than making 'surgery' to it.

I have the exact same problem. Only the fan runs & light blinks yellow a few times thrn cuts off. The power button won't turn blue. This happens every 5 or 6 months the motherbboard goes out. Best buy...

No, it's bad capacitors. When the power supply went the first time around (which I assume is what happened) if the power supply and motherboard were not BOTH replaced, then it'll just keep happening.
When one goes out, both usually need to be replaced.
See http://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=388 for the "Legend of the bad caps". True or not? I don't know, but it's a fun read anyway.

Your cpu might have died. As the computer is starting tap F8 and choose last known good configuration to see if you can get it started.

MY LAPTOP WILL NOT TURN ON

1. Remove all USB devices such as printers, mp3 players etc etc.
2. Remove the power-cable and the battery
3. Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds
4. Put the power-cable back in but not the battery and none the USB devices.
5. Turn the computer on

If this doesnt work can you hear any fans or hard disk activity when you press the power button?
