Question about RCA Televison & Video

2 Answers

I disconnected my RCA TV ( Model 27V414T, Serial - G132CDODY purchased 6/20/06) from the Comcast cable box and plugged the cable directly into the back of the TV. I could not get a picture and played around with the remote menu controls. I don't know what I did, but the result is that I now get no picture at all and I cannot turn the red indicator light on or off with either the remote or the TV power switch. It goes on but nothing comes up - not a sound and no other indicators. I can only disconnect by pulling the plug. What should I do?

Thanks in advance for choosing Fixya for assistance!

• Initially , have the unit unplugged for at least 30 minutes or more

and have it plugged again to a known good and working outlet

later , without any cable box connected ( just the TV only )

• While the unit is unplugged, prepare the things you might need to

use, a separate Media player, could be a VCR or anything

just for a test or further troubleshooting. ( including the cables

that will be needing to connect to it ).

Let me know , how it goes while I prepare a more possible

solution ,

• if these do not work out, you may need to have

a multimeter But a good visual maybe the first tool that is much

needed ( Should you feel , you can work on circuits inside the unit )

While it is still unplugged, Have some time reading these guides:

    and for testing

    How to test MOSFET

    How to
    solder boards properly

    How to use a multimeter

Have someone to help you, If you feel you cannot work inside the unit, or post what you

found ( only if you have open it up )

For the mean time , while reading on the guides,

    • Dont forget that you will need to turn on the TV later , without anything connected to it.

If these doesn't work out, there is a possible component / circuits failure inside the TV

( I just hope it is not ).And it might require a lot of work, courage and a lot more of patience.

    • Maybe using more advanced equipments later just for troubleshooting your unit.

    • But try using the Audio-Video Input of your TV ( not your Comcast Cable Box )

using a media player, just to know and verify if you can still see any on your TV screen.

    • just make sure what you are connecting is turn ON and possibly working.

    • And post what you found, so I can assist you further.( without opening yet your TV )

Thanks for using FixYa. It seems to be a horizontal/vertical circuit issue. You’ll need to open the back of the unit and check/test HOT (horizontal output transformer) and flyback, replace the part that has gone bad. This is only recommended if you have electrical expertise. Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or post a comment for further assistance.

I need instructions on hookup to Comcast Cable

I'm sure Comcast will be more then happy to direct you on phone step by step on how to do this... I'm sure you pay them every month.. don't you.
Best way I'd hook up is through the 5 RCA jacks monster cable.
3 for picture... green red and blue. then the 2 red and white for sound. match colors cable box TV.
if asking to connect direct cable to box.. your tv will pick up either some or nothing. you still need the Comcast cable box.

Please clarify as to what kind of wiring setup you are using from the Comcast cable box to the TV. Is it composite video cable (yellow RCA plug) with Red and White RCA plug for audio, or HDMI cable, or Coaxial RF cable with TV set to Channel 3 or 4?<br /> <span style="FONT-SIZE: 10pt; FONT-FAMILY: 'Arial','sans-serif'"><a href=""></a></span><br /> <span style="FONT-SIZE: 10pt; FONT-FAMILY: 'Arial','sans-serif'"> </span><br /> <span style="FONT-SIZE: 10pt; FONT-FAMILY: 'Arial','sans-serif'; mso-bidi-font-size: 12.0pt"><a href=""></a></span><br /> <span style="FONT-SIZE: 10pt; FONT-FAMILY: 'Arial','sans-serif'; mso-bidi-font-size: 12.0pt"> </span><br /> <span style="FONT-SIZE: 10pt; FONT-FAMILY: 'Arial','sans-serif'"><a href=""></a></span><br />

When you are using a FullHD upscaling model. I still have to a HD setbox

the set top box is required by your cable company.

if you plug cable directly into the TV and run an auto program from the TV menu it will find most channels. BUT it will not locate them correctly.

for instance I have comcast. Channel 58 is FX but WITHOUT a cable box it shows up as the following on my HDtv's

sharp 52" shows up as channel 83.10
RCA 27" shows up as 86.6
RCA 32" shows up as 89.3

its a pain in the ****. We rent 2hd boxes from comcast at 7.99 a month and I refuse to pay them any more per month.

Contrary to what most cable providers say you WILL pick up most channels and in fact you will pick up some HD channels without the box but you have to look for them and they won't be on the same channel on every TV.

Lastly cable companies also remodulaet their signals every once and a while so there will come a time when you will have to do the whole setup, autoprogram (ch scan) again and yes the channels will once again move to another channel.

cable sucks Comcast REALLY sucks

Recently comcast converted all of its cable station to digital, and I am wondering if my RCA television is compatible. We are not getting channels. Model F316335B from 1995

If you connect your TV antenna input directly to the wall, you will need an on-demand box or a converter box from Comcast.
