Hi! Please try this... unplug the laptop from power source and remove the battery. Press hold the power button for 10secs. to drain out stored power. After doing so just let it sit for 30mins. then insert the battery. Turn on the laptop and see how it goes. Hope this helps and have a good one!

Dell Inspiron 5160. When plugged in then power light lights up (before hitting the power button like my 5150) and the battery light is amber. The 5160 will not do anything - not power on at all.

Hello.

The most common reasons for power issues are the battery, power jack and power adapter/cord.

Power off and remove the battery. If the laptop powers on with just the adapter connected, your battery is faulty.

If you move/wiggle the power adapter at the point where it connects to the laptop, and the power goes off and on, the power jack is the problem.

The power jack is inside the laptop and either needs soldering or replacement. If a power jack problem, it should be addressed by someone knowledgeable.

If no change, the power adapter is probably faulty and needs replacement.

Hope this helps.

Dell Inspiron 5160 Black screen on power up

There is a small board that the power button is integrated into that connects to the motherboard. When this power board malfunctions it will cause this issue with the machine. It can, and quite often does, damage the motherboard when it malfinctions. You should take the machine in for a power board replacement and a diagnostic to make sure that the power board hasn't damaged the motherboard.

My Dell Inspiron 1150 PC Notebook Won't Turn On

Norm.. Suffice to say these are a problem. Is it a P35 Adapter? If so look for a replacement and retry. If this does not help Check the CMOS battery voltage as crazy as it may seem but the Dell adapters are a little more complicated than a standard 2 wire output adapter. They have a 19V Feeder or main supply, The Negative or Ground as some people/techs call it as well as a 3.3V data circuit thats related to the Embedded controller chipset, BIOS and other circuits on the board. Also see if you can find a friend local with a known good working battery/adapter if you cannot afford or dont want to spend money on it. If all else fails yell back weve repaired a ton of these and they should have been included in the 5150/5160 Dell Class settlement in my opinion as they have a ton of similar components/issues..

Good Luck! Ken

My Dell Inspiron 5160 won t turn on

Hello viceaddict6,

That model is known for this problem and Dell is aware of it. I believe they will replace your motherboard and AC adapter free of charge. Tell them your problem with the lights, and that motherboard is most likely not getting the powere it needs.

Below is the information to contact them; they are open 24/7. The express code they are referring to is a sticker that is taped to the laptop. My personal experience with them is good, they usually have someone drive out or come by within the same day or next day and replace the hardware with a smile.
