Question about Saeco Spidem Villa

1 Answer

Saeco Spidem Villa brews very slow

The machine has been descaled numerous times but coffee is still dripping out of the dispensing spout very slowly. It used to brew in about 25 seconds and now takes over 1 minute. Could the brew group be stopped up even though I keep it clean?

Hi
Yep.
Remove the brew unit. Holding the handle, the top left side is the brew head. There is an outlet pipe that exits the front side towards the door (looks like a long "L" pipe). 2screws hold it to the top. Remove the 2 screws while holding the manifold ("L" pipe assembly). Once they are removed, lift the l assembly off (be careful, there is an O-ring, spring and at the end a black rubber disk or crystal ball).
Now remove the brew screen, by holding the screen with your finger and twisting the thumbscrew (remember, thumbscrew), DON’T use the key to install the screen, use your fingers.
Once the screen is out look at where the screen was. There are 2 holes. A big one in the center and a small one to the side.
With the brew unit upside down over the towel, insert a paperclip into the small hole and force anything out the other side. I have gotten worms almost a 1" long from this passage. The paper clip has to go from this side to prevent damage to the seat on the other side.
Clean then reassemble. Brew unit on towel right side up. Drop the crystal ball in first. Then the spring small end first on the crystal ball.
Now the O-ring over the spring, then place the manifold on top of that with the pipe towards the machine. Insert your screws (I turn them backwards a little with a little downward pressure until they feel like they drop into the threads. They should turn down easily, if not back them up a little more ( we are trying to find the old threads) and tighten. Install screen, and tighten with your fingers. The screen just needs to be flush with the bottom of the brew head. That should do it.

    Hi

Before you go through all that trouble what is your grind set on? If its lower that 8 or if you are using an oily bean (shiney) 10, try changing it to a larger # then brew 4 coffees. It takes that many to see the change.

The water output on my Spidem Villa was decreasing so I descaled it (I've done this before). No it will not dispense any coffee or water/steam at all. Apparently some of the scale deposits are lodged...

Hi
The first place I would check is the steam wand. Remove the pannarrello (loosen the cap all the way and pull down on the bottom. Leave the cap and seals on the wand). Clean the tip of the wand and check to see if that cleared the blockage.

My Saeco Spidem Villa leaks after it despenses the coffee. Have attempted to clean descale to no avail. Any suggestions?

Take out the grounds box and the brew group. At the back there is an opening. If grounds get in the opening, it can't drain. Get some hot water in a squirt bottle and flush out that opening at the back ... this may end your problem with leaking after dispensing

Try adjusting the grind four numbers coarser and brew a coffee, if you are getting the same result then the brew unit is clogged and the screen needs to be cleaned.

How to descale Saeco Spidem Villa

Hi
Don't use vinegar. Its only 5% acid at full strength and if you mix it with water a lot less. It also leaves an after taste for about 2 weeks. Use descaling powder or other products especially made for espresso machines.
Remember, it is better to descale more often than not enough.
1. To decalcify your boiler, remove your water tank and fill it with hot water (100 to 120 degrees). Open a pack of decalcifier and mix into the water tank. Once it is dissolved, place the tank back on the machine, and then turn the machine on.
2. If you just open the steam knob and run approximately eight ounces of solution into a spare container. Turn the machine off and let set about 10 to 15 minutes. Longer is better. It is very important that the machine does not remain on to heat the boiler anymore than necessary.
3. Repeat step #2 for your machine. Do this until you have consumed the entire water tank of solution (approximately four to five cycles). (I do it at night before I go to bed and let the last cycle set in the boiler till morning.)
4. Remove water tank and rinse it with fresh water.
5. Refill water tank with fresh water and place it back on the machine.
Repeat step #2 to rinse the machine, only this time use the entire water tank at one time, and there is no need to let it set.
