Question about Televison & Video

1 Answer

Hello, I own a 2003 phillips 46" rear projection HDTV model no. 46PP9302 & serial no.78201545. I went to change the channel and the picture just went out but there is still audio. Could it be the picture tube or bulbs that I see in the back. Are they very expensive? Do all three need to be replaced. If not how can I tell which one it is? Is this job very complicated to do yourself?

Try resoldering the vertical output IC thats most likely the problem if not the vertical output IC may need replacing. If you can solder you may be able to do this yourself as its not a hard repair the replace the output IC

Did you replace the (12) 6.8 ohm resistors when you replaced the ICs? There will always be at least 1 of the resistors that will be blown when a phillips ICs fail.

I reacon it might be nearly as cheap to replace the tv because there are only 2 thing which can cause this problem dry joints on the solder ( Quite rare on this type of telly) or the line output transformer and that will cost you nearly a hundred pounds

Sounds like your coolant in the tubes need to be repalced. This is a common problem as the set gets older. Check with www.TvRepairKits.com for the supplies and instruction guide.

Phillips hd projection tv/ model 60pp9363h/17

thats a common problem with all projection tvs. You will need to replace both convergence Ics and 4 resistors. You will need two STK392-120 Convergence ICs and four 6.8 ohm 1watt resistors. You can get replacement parts at the following link and they provide free instalation instructions so you can do the repair yourself. heres the link.
