Question about Kenmore 15516 Mechanical Sewing Machine

Open Question

I have an older model Kenmore machine; model 16524000 with drop in bobbin. My bobbin seems to jump making a lot of noise and the bobbin thread gets tangled. Do I need some kind of new part or is there a simple adjustment?

SOURCE: instructions for theading a Sears Kenmore Sewing machine model 158.14000

all machines thread the same. TTN tension, take up, needle.
Beginning with the spool, guide the thread through the thread guides to the tension assembly. Pull the thread through the tension assembly and test it to make sure the tension is working correctly.
(To do this test, adjust your tension setting to normal or medium or 5 or something in the middle. Raise the presser foot and pull the thread through the tension. It should pull easily!! Lower the presser foot and pull the thread. It should pull noticeably harder.) If it passes this test, continue up through the take up lever, then down through the thread guides to the needle. Make sure your needle is fully inserted and turned the correct way.( If you load your bobbin case from the left side, the needle rule is normally FLAT to the RIGHT is RIGHT. There are some exceptions. If you have a newer style drop in bobbin or your bobbin case loads in the front then the rule is FLAT to the BACK.

To wind the bobbin, guide the thread around the thread guide on
the left top of your machine, then to the bobbin winder. Wind the thread around the bobbin several times, place the bobbin on top of the bobbin winder, push it against the wheel and press the foot pedal. It should stop winding when the bobbin is full or you take your foot off the control

SOURCE: Jammed thread.

To address my needle thread tangling (horribly) in the bobbin compartment, I rethreaded the bobbin. I cleaned the bobbin and the feeder feet, I changed the bobbin and the thread. I changed the tension on the needle thread and the bobbin thread. NO FIX! Then, I changed the needle - the problem was fixed instantly. I sewed awhile and then put the original needle back in. No problem. I think perhaps that the problem is being caused by the needle getting out of alignment somehow during sewing. If you are having the same issue, try it. It can't hurt!

Should my machine have a bobbin case or do I just drop the bobbin straight in?

the bobbin is the bit that you put the thread on
it then drops /fits in the bobbin case
when you put the bobbin in the case you have to pull the thread around until you find a slot and pull the thread around under a flat spring
then you drop the lot into a bobbin case carrier
go google and type in-- user manual for( make and model) sewing machine and that will give you a site with a pdf version down load on how to basically set up the machine to sew
Other than that take it to a service center for any type of sewing machine and they will probably have any missing parts or be able to get the parts if required

My bobbin holder flew out of my sewing machine and I can't get it to pop back in kenmore model 16524000

THE BOBBIN CARRIER IS WHAT FLEW OUT. THIS IS PUT IN BY ROTATING YOUR HAND WHEEL SO THE NEEDLE IS AT IT'S HIGHEST POINT. THEY'RE IS A SPRING THAT HOLDS THE CARRIER DOWN IN THE MIDDLE APPROXIMATELY. IT IS A LITTLE PIECE OF METAL BUT REALLY IS A SPRING. AS YOU PUT IT IN YOU WILL NEED TO PULL UP ON IT A LITTLE IN ORDER TO SLIDE IT IN. BEFORE YOU DO GO AHEAD AND CLEAN THE RACE THE CARRIER LIES ON AND PUT A DROP OF SEWING MACHINE OIL ON IT.

Needle thread wrapping around bobbin case.

Hello Crystal, I also have had problems in the past with drop-in bobbins . I had to experiment with different model bobbins . The cause I found was due to the bobbin was not tall enough in the drop-in bobbin case. When sewing , the bobbin would rock in the bobbin case and the top thread would get caught on the bobbin instead of going over the top of the bobbin, causing the rats nest that you described. I would recommend finding a taller bobbin to fit in the bobbin case. There are about five different bobbins that will fit in there, but only one that will work properly. Knowing the exact model number of your machine would be a great help to finding the correct bobbin.

I have an older kenmore sewing machine. It's been

When I have run into similar problems with my older Singer, it's because there is a bit of thread caught somewhere in the bobbin mechanism that doesn't allow the shuttle to run freely. Take the bobbin assembly apart and use a bright light to see if you see any bits of thread in there.

Good luck and let me know if this works!

Frister Star bobbin/threading problem

First of all make sure you have the needle in the correct way round, when you thread the machine make sure the presser foot is up so the thread goes between the tension discs, top tension about 4 or 5, make sure you can pull the bobbin thread through with slight resistence and the bobbin should turn anti clockwise in the bobbin case as you look at the open part.

Kenmore Sewing Machine Drop-in Bobbin Tension Adjusting Problems

looped stitches are usually caused by improper tension. when the loop is on the upper side, it may be corrected by loosening the top tension or by tightening the lower tension (turn the tension screws on the bobbin a hair at a time)

since using the machine only a few times it is best to clean the machine from dust (can use a can of air) blow air into the bobbin area and between the tension disks and under the throat plate.

make sure the machine is threaded correctly and bobbin is evenly threaded

If You have a drop in bobbin you will have to remove the hook and adjust the tension, however try adjusting the top tension before you remove the hook.

Getting the Bobbin threaded in the Machine

when this has happened to me, the upper thread has somehow run amuck. check to make sure the top thread is STILL routed properly. It might have nothing to do with the bobbin.
