Display problem, CPU Fan starts but no Power on self test begin. Pls help

The computer power-on self-test (POST) tests the computer to make sure it meets the necessary system requirements and that all hardware is working properly before starting the remainder of the boot process. If the computer passes the POST the computer will have a single beep (with some computer BIOS manufacturers it may beep twice) as the computer starts and the computer will continue to start normally. However, if the computer fails the POST, the computer will either not beep at all or will generate a beep code, which tells the user the source of the problem. Once the problem is located, simply replace the defective part.
Below are the AMI BIOS Beep codes that can occur. However, because of the wide variety of different computer manufacturers with this BIOS, the beep codes may vary.

My house power went off and when it came back , i am not able to switch on my desktop. All i hear after i power on my desktop is the fan noise and the beep sound. Pls help

If you hear exactly ONE beep, it means that your computer-hardware (power-supply, CPU, motherboard) is OK.
Multiple beeps are "bad" -- they identify different errors.

If Windows does not "boot", then the power-surge may have damaged your 'C:' drive. Ouch!

Starting proplem

The one beep is normal . If the fan is not working on the CPU , replace the fan or oil it The CPU can go only a second or so without the fan working. Some models(BIOS )will not allow the computer to start if the fan is not working. Start there.Check out the link below:

Try to start my computer but tower keeps on beeping and monitor keeps saying going to sleep. What could be the problem?

Hi,

Probable reason for the beeping sound are:
  • defective, dirty or faulty seated memory sticks; clean, re-seat or replace (most likely);
  • defective, dirty or faulty seated video card; clean, re-seat or replace (likely);
  • corrupted BIOS; flash or replace motherboard (least likely).
The monitor going into sleep mode is because it does not sense any usable video signal from the computer.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information. Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

My computer does not sart

Hi,

Initially I would suspect hardware failure on your PC. The only user action possible would be to open the PC and look over the memory sticks and the video card (if not built-in). Remove them and clean the little gold pin edges. Additionally, it might be of help to clean the slots where they go to with the use of a clean dry paint brush. Soon as everything is cleaned, reinsert the memory and/or video card to their respective slots. Power up your PC. If it runs OK, you're set to go if not, pls determine if you can hear a series of beeping sounds. Pls post back describing the sequence and duration of the beeps.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

HP desktop wont start up

Hi, depends on the beep sequence, it could either ba a bad memory or a bad video card. By being bad does not necessarily mean defective but could possibly be just loose. Try to open the casing/cover and reseat/push back into place the video card (if it is not built-in) and/or the memory. It is possible that they were jarred loose while in transit. Pls make sure the unit is unplugged before doing this. BTW, being new, you might void your warranty if you open the casing, pls check your warranty card. Hope this works out for you. Please let me know how things turn up. Regards
