Hi,

Try this simple solution first.

Remove the AC power cord, battery and any other external device from the laptop.
Hold down the power button for 30 seconds to dispel and residual power from the laptop motherboard.

Now just plug in the AC power only, leave the battery out and turn the laptop on.
If it boots up let it load the OS and then shut it down. Reinsert the battery and see if it will boot with the battery in.

If this does not help matters please post back giving a full description of what you can see/hear. For example any light indicators, strange noises etc.

Good luck.

all that i can see or hear is the battery light on the front of the computer flashing on and off 6 times orange. it will not power on. i noticed what appears like a picture of a plug on the front of computer beside battery picture it doesn't light up at all does this mean anything?

I hope to hear back from you soon. the others never replied back after their first suggestion

Did you remove the battery and try boot the laptop on AC only? Also, you said to the previous experts that you had bought a new charger for the laptop? Was this a Universal charger which which comes with different connectors?

  • jsja Jul 05, 2010

Yes, i tried it just like you said. It still won,t turn on at all. The charger i bought did not come with different ende. it is a replacement for a TOSHIBA SATELLITE l355-s7905. i ordered it off e-bay. could it be the problem. it worked fine up until now.

    Hi,

Chances are that you have bought a univeral charger from eBay which has possibly done the damage to the laptop. This is because you can only set the voltage on a universal and not the amperage. If the amperage is not correct then over time they damage internal components on the laptop motherboard.

If your charger is an OEM (one that is meant for that laptop and supplied by Toshiba) then there is a possibility that there has been a power spike or surge during the night when it was charging. Have you noticed anthing odd with any other electrical items in your house? Like clocks reset etc?

The flashing amber lights on the laptop is a code for what is wrong with it. I have looked for amber flashing lights 6 times for your particular model and have gotten no where although i'm pretty sure that its something to do with the power input not being sufficent or too much. Thus why i asked if your area was suffering from power spikes or surges. These can be caused by storms.

You need to give Toshiba Customer Services a call now and explain to them your problem, describe the LED blinks to them and see what they say.
They will however probably say that the problem is the laptop motherboard and it needs to be sent in for repair.

If the laptop is still under warranty then they should carry out any repairs free of charge.

I'm sorry i couldn't be of more help.

    Good luck.

Hello,

Remove the battery from the laptop and plug in the adapter to power supply and connect the adapter with your laptop, power on your laptop to see if it will power on, if it power on, unplug the adapter and put back the battery, try power it on while the adapter is still connected to power outlet, if it powers on, remove the adapter from your laptop and power on the laptop, if it did not power on, it means the battery as been short circuit and will need to be replace, follow the step one after the other to see where the problem lies, but i believe so much that the battery might be the problem, so remove the battery and plug in the adapter to your laptop and power outlet and turn on the laptop to see if it will turn on, if it does, replace the battery.

Take care.

    any new suggestions

    are you still there?

    Hello,

Look at the battery indicator light on your computer. Is it on? If so,
check your brightness settings. If your laptop appears that it is not
on, it may in actuality have lowered brightness settings. If the
brightness setting is at its lowest setting, the laptop screen will be
completely dark, and the laptop will appear to be powered off, even
though it is not. Try cranking up the brightness settings.

Check your AC power adapter. Is it snugly plugged into the wall or surge
protector? Make sure the connection is made and it is not loose. Also,
try connecting the power adapter into a different wall outlet. Check the status of your laptop battery by considering how long you have
had the same battery. Most modern batteries are only good for about
1,000 full charges. After that point, the battery can and eventually
will greatly deteriorate. Replace your battery if necessary.

Replace your battery by powering off your laptop and then flipping it
over and locating the battery cover outline, which will be near the
bottom back of your laptop. Remove any screws with a Phillips
screwdriver and pop off the battery cover. Slide out the old battery.
Put in the new battery by sliding it in until it clicks, and then
    replace the cover.

Consider replacing your laptop monitor. Your laptop may power on, but if
the monitor display does not work, it will appear to be off and you
will not be able to operate the machine. Check to see if your current
LCD display works by plugging your laptop up to an external monitor
using a VGA cable. If the external monitor displays your computer
contents, your computer motherboard and underlying systems are still
working, but your display will need to be replaced.

    Take care.

Hi. Remove the charger, remove the battery then reinsert the charger and turn the laptop on.

Please let me know if you get any light indicator on your laptop, on, blinking or no light at all. Does your charger has a light indicator? If yes, is it solid green when the charger is plugged-in?

Let me know further.... Thanks.

I did what you suggested and it still will not turn on. No, my charger does not have a light on it. It is a replacement charger I purchased less than one month ago. No previous problems before this.

  • jsja Jul 05, 2010

    any more suggestions?

    Please try these.
-Remove the battery, press and hold power button for about 30secs then release. Repeat 5 times. Insert the battery and turn it on. Note: press and hold the button as you normally turn on a laptop, don't press too hard. You may damage your laptop and get a sore finger.
-try to use a diff charger or use your charger on other laptops with same model and see if your charger is still good.
-if you can't borrow a charger, get a volt-ohm-meter tester and test the output of your charger and see if the output voltage is correct.

    Good luck.

try holding power button on for 15-20 seconds, if nothing, try holding both power button and up volume button on together for 15-20 seconds.

Seems to be a problem of not enough power.

First check the voltage output of the charger(adapter) and match it with its specs.

Also try to reset the hardware using the following steps:

1 Disconnect battery and the charger
2 Let it sit for 1-2 minutes.
3 Press and hold down the power button for 30 seconds.
4 Reconnect battery and charger and try to start by pressing the power button.
