Question about Televison & Video

1 Answer

I have a Sony Bravia KDL-40EX400. Every morning I have to reboot my cable box to get my cable signal. I get the "Unsupported Signal" message and no picture if I don't. I have seen other posts about this with LCD Tvs but I am unclear about why this happens and if there is a fix. I saw something about refresh rates and that made sense. I have Comcast HD cable tier and the Sony TV with Sony home theater. The TV is receiving signal from the cable box HDMI and the home theater is receiving audio via light pipe from the cable box. After I reboot the cable box everything is fine. It is just that I have to do this everyday.

Hi, did you got solution for that problem?

  • dcasey2 Jul 08, 2010

No I did not. I have trouble shooted the problem up and down the line and have not got a solution. What I am leaning towards is a bad cable box. I think it has to do with the signal it is sending the TV. It is like the TV cannot lock to it at times. I see the cable box flipping between 740 and 1080 dpi. I have to reboot the cable box and 9 out of 10 times this will work and all is good until I turn the TV off. Sometimes if I leave the cable box on an HD channel I can turn the TV back on and it will still work. Other times not. I live in an urban community so I am not out in the boondox. I have read other threads about TVs and the dreaded "Unrecognized signal" error. Sometimes I get a blue screen with a "No signal" message. I have ruled out the cabling. The TV works fine with the blue ray player on HDMI 4 input. I tried switching inputs and ruled that out as well. What do you think? Bad cable box or lousy signal? Thanks for checking back. I was not happy with my first Guru.

All symptoms show that cable box is cause of problem, not sure that its internale circuit problem (signal processing in cable box) or its getting distorted signal from cable company.
TV sounds good because it works fine with blu ray player that is HD signal as well.
Change cable box just to confirm it.
I hope this tv would be under warranty so ask nearest Sony service to update its firmware under warranty cover that might fix the issue.
Thanks.

How do I connect my laptop to a Sony Bravia model KDL-40S4100?

Two options are available to you-

1. Through VGA Cable(Same cable which goes from CPU to PC Monitor)- For Video.
Take to PC Mode from MENU -> EXTERNAL I/P -> PC.

2. Through HDMI Cable.
Take to HDMI Mode from MENU -> EXTERNAL I/P -> HDMI.

If Still No Video
CASE1- 'NO Signal' Message Comes, then toggle the laptop screen with Function Key (depending upon laptop company).
CASE-2- 'Un-Supported Signal' Message comes then adjust the resolution to 1024*768 or 800*600 or as mentioned in Manual.

Please intimate me if any other problem comes after that.

Sony bravia klv-32t400a hdmi input through x-box and p.c gives error reading - unsupported signal! check device output. both are on 1080p using hdmi to hdmi cable v1.3 why no vidio, only audio

The problem is that, according to the specs for that TV, it doesn't support 1080p.
That's a 720p television you've got. (Specs here)
While the specs say that it supports 1080p, the resolution says it supports 1366 x 768, which is only 720p, not 1080p or even 1080i.
You may want to contact Sony for clarification, because their specs for that tv are contradicting each other.

Lose sound on sony bravia 40v4100 lcd tv

if you are using an hd cable box it might be just that. what happens is if the cable company is doing work around your area or some one on your block adds another cable line to there house you end up losing signal for your box. now if you pull the power plugg and let it reboot that could either fix the problem temporarly or not at all. you might need an amplifier hooked up to your cable lines or a new cable box all together. contact your cable provider and ask for some one to test your signal quality. i am also assuming that your not getting the same problem when your watching a dvd. i hope this helps you

Pc setting for sony bravia

'Unsupported Signal' Error indicates that TV is accepting the signals for Video but not able to display because resolution doesn't matches. Else the message would be 'No Signal'.
Follow the steps-
NOTE- Make sure cable is 15 pin(at both ends) VGA cable, working fine between PC & Monitor.
1.The standard resolution of laptop(any) which would support is 1024*768.
2. Toggle the display output from Laptop Fn Keys depending on Laptop Brand.
3. Connect the cable after settings made.
Also PC Settings will not be highlighted until connection is made.
