HP L2000 Screen DIM

Hi I have an HP L2000 and the screen is very very Dim.When connected to an External Monitor it works fine. The inverter was replaced and I know the LCD is fine. So, do you agree it is either the Backlight or the Motherboard?
How do I know which it might be? Anything else it could be like the CCFL?
THanks in advance.R

No this is not the brightness button.

See previous note for items changed out.

I have the same problem with my L2000 and you are correct it is not a brightness setting, button or anything that simple. Like cyberfox's L2000 notebook it works fine if you connect it to an external monitor. Speaking briefing with someone who had a similar problem I believe he said he changed out the CCFL.

I have the same problem with my HP L2000. I changed the screen inverter & still the same. I bought a used laptop on ebay with bad mother board & swapped screens - and still the same problem.

Yes, from all the descriptions available, I come to a conclusion that the issue is with the Backlight of the Notebook which has gone bad because of which the display looks to be faded.
In this kind of sutiations, the LCD Backlight needs to be replaced.

However, if you would like to check the Brightness settings, try holding the FN Key and pressing the F8 key to increase the Brightness or the F7 key to decrease the Brightness.
Hope this helps..

Ravi - I own this HP L2000 laptop and I am having this issue - the middle 1/3 of the screen is dim while the outer left and right areas of the screen are fine - - sounds like a backlight issue? Is this easy to repair and fix? Where can I get the part and how long should it take? Thank you

I have a friend that is has the same problem and I noticed that when I push in the monitor button( little button in top left corner which lets the pc know the laptop is close) the screen comes back in. Thing is if its all the way down or up the screen goes out but half way down it stays in.

The inverter could be faulty. The inverter supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp that provides the back light. The inverter is located at the bottom of the LCD screen between the hinges.

Hello !

Since an external monitor works, it is the display's backlight or inverter board.

If you were experiencing discoloration in the screen (pinkish lower light hues) before it failed, that would indicate a CCFL backlight issue. If the screen suddenly went dim on you rather than a slow degradation the inverter would be indicated.

In either case, a technician in your area should be able to help. Evaluate to see if the repair is cost-effective.

Hope this helps.

HP DV1000 screen too dim

The 4 most common problems with dim lcd's on a laptop are boken screens, bad power inverter, bad florescent bulbs or a broken cable.

You can test the power inverter with a meter.

There should be 2 bulbs. If your screen is dim and your inverter is good and you can still make out what is on the screen, you probably have a bad bulb. If you can't determine which bulb is bad you'll have to replace both.

In my opinion, the easiest way to handle this is to replace the whole screen. Yes, it's more exspensive, but consider that it is most likely to fix your problem. A replacement screen comes with the power inverter, both bulbs, and the cable; already assembled and ready to install.

Monitor is dim

Sounds like your inverter is failing. The inverter takes the dc power from the battery and charger and converts to high voltage AC current for the backlight lamp inside the screen. When the inverter starts to fail, the display will sometimes blink, dim out over time, flash just get dark and stay that way.

Sounds like your inverter or your backlight is failing. The inverter is an easy repair, the backlight can be replaced but it involves taking the LCD panel apart, The backlight comes installed on new screens. I can include a service manual below and possibly a generic guide to backlight replacement....

LCD dim.

If you have replaced the screen and the inverter, about the only thing left is the flexible cable from the monitor to the video card. I take it that the Fn+F8 makes no difference?

Dark unreadable screen

If you see a dim image or flicking image on the LCD screen it means you have a backlight problem.
Connect an external monitor to the laptop and power it up, if you see a clear image on an external monitor, this means your video card is OK.

Dim image and/or dark display on the laptop's LCD screen indicates a faulty LCD backlight and it could be the inverter that supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp or it is the CCLF lamp is nearly burnt out or burnt out, most likely this is the case.
The inverter can be replaced easily but the CCLF lamp is more time consuming and requires soldering skills.
