SOURCE: whirlpool stopped making ice, water side is fine.

Hi!

Please check to see whether the ice maker has been turned off. Here's how to check. Look for a wire along the right side of the ice maker that looks a bit like a coat hanger. If this wire is in the raised position, the ice maker is turned off. On some units you simply lower the wire to the down position to turn the ice maker on. On others, you lower a small red plastic lever to lower the wire. If the wire is in the proper position check the freezer temperature, it should be between 0-8 degrees Fahranheit. If it is warmer than 10-12 degrees, the ice maker may not produce any ice. Check your door seals and thermostat, repair/replace as necessary

Please do rate this solution as FixYa and revert for further assistance.

Thanks

SOURCE: Whirlpool Gold Side by Side Ice maker not making ice.

Is the freezer cold enough? Should be close to 10 degrees.
Is there water or ice in the ice mold? If not put water in it and see if it dumps the ice after it’s frozen. If there is ice, lift the cut off arm and let it drop to see if it will start.
If it does dump the ice but don’t refill with water.
Try swapping the wires on the dual water inlet valve. Then try the water dispenser. The water should go to the ice maker. This will tell you weather or not the ice maker valve is working and if the line is clear.

The water inlet valve on the back of unit opens when the ice maker needs water. If the valve doesn't seal good because of sediment or wear it will continue to drip and when the water reaches the ice maker supply tube it will freeze. You can take the water line off the valve and watch to see if it drips.

We cannot find where the filter is on our side by side whirlpool model #ed2shaxml

The water filter is at the very bottom on the left side of the grille. There is a check valve that will allow to simply unscrew and replace the filter, but be careful, nevertheless, to turn the water valve off before replacing it

Replace the water inlet valve after making sure the tube which fills the icemaker is not frozen . If it is , replace the valve anyway . The valve is the piece which connects to the line to the wall on fridge .

I have an old Kenmore 26 side by side that dispenses water and ice. At one point it stopped producing ice and dispensing water. I changed the inline filter and it worked perfectly. Happened again shortly...

It sounds like you need to replace your water inlet valve , it is a dual valve for ice and water in the door and they go out often , the solenoid is not opening anymore , it is located where you hook up the water line.
Let me know if you have any other questions.

Whirlpool refrigerator stopped making ice.

If there are ice cubes in the icemaker sitting there waiting to be dumped then the problem is in the icemaker. If the icemaker is dry then you have a water supply problem, even if you have a water in the door working.
1.Check the fill line inside the freezer at the icemaker, if it is clogged with ice then remove this ice and replace the water valve.

2. Check the water supply. Turn the water supply off, disconnect the water line from the Ref, turn the water back on an fill a small glass. If the water supply is good the solenoid on the water valve should be checked. This is done with an OHM meter.

Ice maker Stopped producing ice

What is sounds like is somehow either the water delievery system is clogged or frozen. If your getting water out of the door, then it is probably frozen. If you are able to turn off the freezer for a bit, that would be an easy way to see if that is the problem without having to deal with Whirlpool or a handyman.
