Question about Dryers

1 Answer

We had a flood last night and had about 2 1/2 feet of water in basement. My Kenmore gas dry will turn on but will not heat. Is this something I can fix on my own or is the dryer now trash? thank you to anyone who can help.

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. The first thing that should be checked is the Thermal fuse which is mounted to the exhaust duct inside the back cover. If this fuse goes bad the dryer will not heat and you’ll have to replace it as it cannot be repaired. If this is fine then you’ll need to check the thermostat, igniter and coils. Please do rate the solution if the issue is resolved or post a comment for further assistance.

Thanks
Rylee

Remove spark plug and allow everything to completely dry. Check oil, if water in oil, replace oil. Heat up plug with a torch or lighter to get rid of any moisture. Then reinstall. Fresh gas should do the trick.

Hello, my dryer got wet due to my basement flooding and it starts, but no heat.

It is highly risky to use any electric appliance even after the removal of flood water. Before using it you need to make sure that it is not wet from either inside or outside. Even a single drop of water can cause a short circuit at you home and can also lead to unfortunate event. In such case you need to search for a company like http://floodfixer.com/ that dries wet basements to ensure your safety. Professionals can bring your valuable possessions back to its original position and make them ready for reuse.

I woke up last night with water running from under my refrigerator flooding my kitchen & basement. What could be causing the problem? Also how do I remove the evaporator pan? So much stuff is...

check and make sure that the water fill valve does not have a crak in it usually not enough water in the defrost pan to cause any kind of flooding issue. it is either a bad water valve or a broken water line somewhere on the unit

My basement flooded and now my gas water heater

Was the gas valve under water? If so it must be replaced. If not, and you're sure you are holding in the button for at least 30 seconds after the pilot is lit, the pilot will need to be removed disassembled and cleaned. Also, the thermocouple may or may not be bad, replace it anyway (for the cost @ Lowes etc just not worth it).

Refrigerator was in the basement with 6" of water....

The electric parts that got wet will need to be dried out. Try putting a flood light etc. shining on the bottom for a few days to see if it will dry it out, then turn it back on and listen for a click from the compressor relay as the compressor tries to start. Is the compressor motor running. If no check starter/overload relay.
Check to see if the condenser fan at the back underneath near the compressor is running. If no check fan.

Are the condenser coils near there warm or room temp. should be warm

Flooded and not heating now

There is no pilot light. You probably got water into gas jets, also all electronics to ignitor need to be dryed. Also blow out all gas parts. If dryer was plugged in at time of flood you could have shorted one of the thermal switches behind back cover. Check all of this I wrote.

My GE dryer will not heat up after flood damage

Hello chucky40,
There is a good chance that your gas valve has been damaged by the water. Can you tell if after you try starting it if the igniter comes on and/or you have gas flow to the burner? Those are the prime suspects ( albeit not the only ones) but you will need to verify these basic functions before others can be examined..
Keep me posted and I'll try to help you get thru this..
Regards,
Rick
