I TOOK MY LAPTOP TO THE GEEK SQAUD.they said i need to order a system restore cd for a dell latitude 620.something about 5 dl that have been deleted or destroyed.can you help me

The dl's they mention are Driver files.

A Driver file is a small piece of software that allows communication between the Operating System, and a device.

Operating System:
Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7 are some examples of an O/S.
Operating System

Device:
The hardware components inside the laptop, or outside, that are, or can be connected to the laptop.

Some examples of inside hardware device components;
Harddrive, (Hard Disk),
Optical drive, (CD or DVD drive),
Wireless adapter,
are just a few.

Some examples of outside hardware devices, (Peripheral's)
Printer, scanner, Fax machine, copier, (Or an All-In-One machine),
External harddrive,

The Drivers MUST match YOUR laptop.
Has to be for a Dell Latitude D620.
Also has to be for the Operating System that is installed on your Dell laptop.

You can download the drivers, and install them, IF Dell has what it is needed.
Some of the Drivers are within the Operating System itself.
They will also be matched to THAT particular Dell laptop you have.

The easiest, and best method IMHO, is for you to obtain THE System Restore disk from Dell, for YOUR laptop, and fix your laptop yourself.
(Cheaper too!)

1) Turn the laptop on
2) Insert the System Restore disk in the optical drive tray, close the tray.
3) When asked do a Repair. (Non-Destructive Installation)

After you get the System Restore disk, come back here, and someone will lead you through it, if you have problems.

{I have heard the disk/s are not cheap. Not a 'fanboy' of Geek Squad either)
{OH! Did i say that outloud? lol}

Office Outlook 2007 crashing everytime

Hey,

I was having the same problem with Outlook 2007 on my Laptop, looked for all the possible resolutions but no Clue..
Then I tried to check the addins I was using in Outlook 2007, I found that after disabling the unnecessary addins from Regsitry I am able to use outlook 2007 without any issues.

For Disabling the outlook addisn you have to go to:
Start> Run> Type Regedit> Hit Entre> HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>SOFTWARE>MICROSOFT>OFFICE> OUTLOOK>ADDINS there you will find all the Addins, Please right click on the onw which is not required to go to modify & change the value to 0.
It will disable the Addins from Registry. we can enable the Addin when ever required.

Close & re launch your Outlook.

Hope this will help you in resolving the issue related to the outlook crashing.

Cheers!!!!

I was told my laptop now needs a new hard drive, but the tech suggested I not bother trying to have it fixed. A new hard drive wouldn't be expensive but the labor to put it on is twice as much. What do you...

Sata hard drives are available but the installation and all that are cumbersome . I think you should go ahead and upgrade and you can sell this off for some money as well . My point of view anyway . You can llok for sandisks or wd second hand drives. SHould be good.

How to reformat the hard disk of laptop w/o recovery dics?

Reformatting will wipe the drive clean and you will need to reinstall windows, either from the rescue CD or from other media. You may be able to contact Acer and order a replacement CD and install it using the OEM license originally sold with your machine.

If it is merely a problem that programs are not running correctly or that something has corrupted the computer, see if there is a good restore point that you can use from "System Restore." This may allow you to fix the problem and remove the offending program without having to go through the trouble of reformatting and finding the replacement disk.

Finally, since you say that it is Vista, it should be a relatively new machine and it may have a restore partition instead of a rescue disk. If this is the case, there should be a utility in your programs from acer that will allow you to restore the computer to its original form. This will typically reboot the computer and handle the format / reinstall for you. It's possible your friend can't find the disk because he didn't have one.

Just a heads up, typically you can not use a rescue disk from another machine (different make or model) as it will check the hardware configuration before installing the software to make sure it matches the machine the disk shipped with. It is not serial number specific though.

Hope this helps!

No tuner error on sony media center

Hi

The problem must be either because of Hardware or software. You are saying that you already tried installing new drivers and softwares for the tuner card and checked, but its bad luck. So it seems the hardware device may be failed. So first ensure the hardware working properly by plugging tuner card into any of your friends system. If it works properly, then it must be surely software problem. We can try installing any other version of device drivers and softwares and make it work.

Goood luck.

HP laptop keyboard frozen

Hello. If your laptop model is TX-something (convertible screen), do remove battery + powercable. Wait. Start your laptop. If this does not work, you may wish to reset bios.

Keep looking for BIOS update, because problem will repeat until HP address the issue.

No sound on AMILO laptop

Keriandjelly,
Sounds like you need to update your audio drivers. There are a couple of ways you can do that, one being checking the manufacturer's support site and entering your model information to download the correct driver. Another that may work is a manual Windows update (click start, then all programs, then near the top of page you'll see Microsoft update/Windows update) and make sure when prompted you select Custom install rather than Express install, this will show you additional software and hardware updates that should include your audio card, and you can select/add the update for the device in question and the update should/could restore your audio.
Good luck.

My laptop had to be wiped because of an virus or something and now i have now sound what can i do about it?

the easiest solution is go to the Acer website and download the latest sound drivers for your laptop model. Possibly the drivers are on one of the restore disks, but the latest driver for sound should be readily available on their site.
