How to replace distributor on 2000 Chrysler Cirrus

Clear any other components in the way. Take the distributor cap off, leaving the wires attached. Note or take a picture of the orientation of rotor to the motor. unbolt the distributor and pull it out. Do not crank the engine while the distributor is out. I think yours cannot be put in wrong but no need to tempt fate! Install the new distributor with the rotor in the same position as the old one. install your new cap and transfer each wire from the old cap, one by one. Put all the other stuff back on. While you do this job think about a new set of plugs. All done!

and how to un-do the wrong ways..... not fun....

short class
match mark distrib, to housing.
cap off
crank at TDc MARK 0 DEGREES
Rotor in distrib. points to #1 spark wire
if not turn crank CW, 1 full turn back to same spot
rotor is on #1 now ,not #4
remove distrib.
put back ,with rotor, to #1 and match marks aligned
if frisky set timing, now

I replaced the spark plugs, gaped at .35, replaced wiring, took each wire and replaced from the one I replace so the firing order should be correct, replaced the cap and rotor. The had been running before...

If the engine is balking or kicking back while you are cranking it over, chances are you may still have gotten the wires on the cap wrong. You may have the correct order but started in the wrong spot.
Take a drinking straw and put it into the #1 plug hole (don't let it fall in) and rotate the engine by hand 'till the timing mark on the front pulley lines up with the "0" on the timing scale and the straw is at it's highest position. Look at the rotor. it should be pointing roughly at the R/F headlight. Mark the position with a crayon etc on the outside of the housing and replace the cap. That is the #1 plug wire position...the remainder of the wires are installed in the same direction the rotor turns...153624 or 18436572 (if 8cyl). If the rotor points 180 degrees away from where I said, turn the engine one more revolution.

Took the distributor out and cleaned it then put it back in and now the truck wont crank but tries to do so. need some tips please

Did you take out the ENTIRE Distributor or just the cap?

If you took out the entire Distributor, and put it back in, there is a possibility that you put it in backwards. The bottom of the Distributor has a 'notch' in it. If you turn it 180 degrees the wrong way, and put it back in, your truck will not start, because it is in effect 180 degrees out of alignment with the timing.

If you only took out the cap, refer to your owners manual (Hanes is best) for the plug wire placement in reference to the firing order, and make sure all the plug wires are in the correct locations. Also, make sure your plug wires are seated all the way down onto the plugs, and the cap is secured tightly onto the base of the Distributor.

Make sure your Coil Wires are also seated properly to the coil and the Distributor.

Clean the battery connections. Remove the battery connections, clean them and reinstall.

I installed the Utilitech self-adjusting timer exactly as shown in the instructions: black to black, red to red, green to ground and white to neutral. It didn't work. I swapped out all of the colors. ...

Here's a Utilitec page with step by step wiring help:

I've done testing on the Utilitec.
Utilitec timers are made to replace 2-pole switches where one switch (or one timer) controls the lights.

If display shows after wiring timer, then wiring is usually correct
If display does not show, then electricity is OFF
If you are replacing a 3-way switch, the Utilitec is wrong timer
If the wiring is wrong the Utilitec will not function.
If you do not have a neutral wire in the box, the timer will not function

I think you better have it towed, it may be cheaper in the long run. I would disconnect the battery, you could end up with a fire on your hands if the wires short out.

I hooked up the spark plug wires wrong on the distrator cap it is a 1988 4.3L 6cyl how can i find a diagram to fix this problem or tell me hoe to fix it

find the firing order which is usually on the intake manifold, put the crankshaft on 0 degrees top dead center, pull off the distributor cap and mark where the rotor button is pointing, start #1 cylinder at that spot(which that spot should be pointing towards the rear of the distributor),and # 1 cylinder is front of engine on the drivers side then it goes next 1 back #3 then # 5,and the passengers side front is #2, then #4,then #6 towards the back, and the firing order goes clockwise on the distributor.if it spits and sputters or back fires, then the timing firing order is off 180 degrees,so move every wire to the exact opposite on the cap,so your #1 plug wire will be opposite from where you put it first.then double check the firing order and all plug wires then try it.the firing order is:165432,i still dont know how to send pictures.

Contact the autozone parts store and they will help with printing out a picture. The order should be 1-3-4-2, distrubtor rotation going in a clockwise directio
