I was able to burn a couple of dvd-r's on my macbook with some new software by Roxio - Toast. On the third or fourth dvd (all were from a brand new sealed pack of dvd-r's), there was some kind of error. I put another disc in and it said "please insert blank disc." I tried several other discs, tried restarting the program, restarting the computer .. Idk what to do! Please help!!

Hi! If restarting the pc doesnt help on the cd burning then you have a bad blank cdr. Eventhough the cdrs are sealed you can not really tell if there are bad ones. Try opening a different pack and see how it goes. If still fails, try burning the cd on other pc. If it works then the optical lens of the mac cd burner is faulty. YOu will need to run a cd lens cleaner to fix it. Hope this helps and have a good one!

Hello,

There are few things you need to work on this kind of situation, first is that, i advice you uninstall the roxio-toast software and reinstall back on your system, because it is possible that it is corrupt that is why it is given such error, uninstall and reinstall back the roxio software.
If the problem still persist after this, the problem could be that the lens could not read the disc any longer, maybe, the lens on your system is weak that it can no longer read disc, if so, replace the lens on the dvd ROM. lastly, i would suggest you reinstall the operating system by carrying out repair on the operating system because the operating system might also be corrupt, that is why it is given such error.

But the most important is uninstalling the roxio software and reinstalling back because it is possible it is corrupt, but if the problem persist after carrying out this, then the dvd ROM is the problem and might need to be replace.

Take care.

Well, even when Roxio is not in use, and I insert a blank dvd ... It ejects it after a few seconds. SO I think it is a problem with the dvd-rom. Could that still mean it is the lens?

    Hello,

The problem is not the lens since it dvd ROM rejcts the cds, if it lens problem, the lens will only not read the disc, that is the work of lens, just to read the disc, but in this case, if you have the dvd rom drivers, uninstall the present one on the system and reinstall the dvd rom drivers, but if problem still persist, then it means the dvd rom will need to be replace.

    Take care.

Okk .. That was the enxt thing I was gonna try. Do you know how I can do this on a macbook?

  • Sulaimon Jimoh Olayemi Jul 08, 2010

    Hello,

Procedure on how to replace the dvd rom on your macbook

Rub one of the short edges of the credit card against the sandpaper.
Stop rubbing when the short side develops a beveled edge.
Put a soft cloth down on a table. Close the lid of the MacBook. Put the
MacBook face down on the soft cloth. Insert a coin in the battery slot
and twist the slot. Pull the battery up and out of the MacBook. Touch
the inside metal of the battery compartment to remove static
    electricity.
Use the Phillips jewelry screwdriver to loosen the three screws at the
edge of the battery compartment. Lift out the "L" bracket from the
battery compartment, starting from the right side. Turn the MacBook back
    right side up.
Use the Phillips jewelry screwdriver to remove the two screws from the
front of the MacBook next to the ROM drive's disc slot. Use the
Phillips jewelry screwdriver to remove the four screws from the back of
the MacBook. Turn the MacBook over and remove the three screws from the
bottom using the Phillips jewelry screwdriver.
Use the Phillips jewelry screwdriver to remove all of the screws from
inside of the battery compartment. Turn the MacBook back right side up.
Insert the beveled edge of the credit card between the top case and the
left side of the MacBook. Move the credit card down the length of the
MacBook. Lift the top case up off the bottom case from the front.
Disconnect the ribbon cable at the front from the bottom case with the
flat-edged screwdriver.Pry the Bluetooth antenna up off the upper right corner of the bottom
case with the flat-edged screwdriver. Use the Phillips jewelry
screwdriver to remove the screw next to the antenna that is at the lower
left of the MacBook's ROM drive. Use your finger to disconnect the
copper colored cable from the ROM drive. Peel the plastic tape off of
the copper colored cable.Move the silver cable aside and slide the bracket away from the ROM
drive with your finger. Grab the tab at the edge of the hard drive that is next to the ROM drive and pull it out from the bottom case. Use
the Phillips jewelry screwdriver to remove the two screws from the ROM
drive that were hidden by the hard drive.
Lift up the cable running alongside the ROM drive. Lift the ROM drive up
slightly and push the cable beneath it. Use the utility knife to cut
off the antenna holder on the ROM drive. Carefully pull the metal
bracket from off the ROM drive.

Remove the tape from the back of the ROM drive. Pull the cable from out
of the connector in the back of the ROM drive. Remove the ROM drive and
discard it.Attach the metal bracket to the replacement ROM drive.
    Attach the
cable to the back of the replacement ROM drive. Attach the tape to the
back of the replacement ROM drive. Reattach the replacement ROM drive to
the bottom case of the MacBook.

Reattach the hard drive to the MacBook. Reassemble the MacBook. Reinsert
the battery into the battery compartment. Put the MacBook face up on
the soft cloth. Raise the MacBook's lid and turn it on. Use the MacBook
with the ROM drive that you have changed for the one that it had
    previously.

    Take care.

Hello,

check the DVD plates you successfully burnt, with the ones that refuse to be recognized by the Macbook, make sure they are exactly the same brand/make and type. Because there are some empty discs that are + while some are -, so check if there is any difference between the dvds that you burnt with the ones that did not burn.

If the dvd's are exactly the same, then maybe your macbook burner has over worked and needs some rest, that's why its not recognizing other empty dvds.

So, shut down the macbook and allow it cool for couple of hours, then you can continue burning thereafter. I believe it should respond well by then.

Good luck.

This is a video that I made and want to copy. Toast will make a disc image, it puts the picture of the 2 clips, and then says "could not record the disc because a file could not be found" Result code

Your burner program wants to make an image so the video can be played in a DVD player. If the format is not correct it don't want to burn the disk. Please read the manual from the burner program, or press the F1 key before you start. I hope they inserted some help in the program.

Tip

How to Rip & Burn DVDs on a Mac

1) Download and install Handbrake. This free software allows you to easily rip DVDs on any Mac with OS 10.3.9 or higher. Download and install Roxio Toast to compress and burn the DVD,
2) Insert the DVD that you want to rip into the DVD drive. Close any DVD program that starts automatically. Open Handbrake.
3) Make sure that the "Detect Volume" option is selected and click the "Open" button. The Handbrake software will scan the DVD, collect all pertinent information and open the main menu.
4) Make sure that the title Handbrake selected for the DVD is correct. If it is not correct choose the appropriate one from the "Title" menu. Choose a destination for your ripped DVD in the "Destination" section of the menu, the default being your desktop.
5) Click the "Rip" button. (Do not interrupt the process or turn off your computer until the DVD is ripped.) This will create the ripped files and a folder structure which includes a "VIDEO_TS" folder.
6) Open Roxio Toast and select the "Video" tab. Select the "DVD-Video" option from the "VIDEO-TS" menu. Select the "Fit to DVD Compression" option to burn the ripped files onto a single-layer DVD.
7) Choose the "VIDEO_TS" folder that you just created by clicking on the "Select" button. Choose which options you want for your ripped DVD with the "Copy Options" button.
8) Insert a blank DVD into your DVD-R drive. Click the red "Burn" button in Roxio Toaster and allow the program to run its full course. Now your DVD is ready to watch on any DVD player.
Hope this helps.

DVDs I burn will not play on other players. Players reject disc

Check that the burner is finalizing the discs. This can be set in Roxio or in the optical drive properties. In Windows 7, right click on the optical drive, choose Properties, then the Recording tab. Then the Global settings lets you choose to finalize the disc on eject. Try a different brand of DVD+R and check that the other players support DVD+R discs. (I know some DVD players only support DVD-R.)

I hope this helps.

Sometimes different DVD software and DVD writers are picky with the type of DVDs that you put in. Try a different brand and see if that makes a difference.

LaCie DVD Burner Not Doing Much of Anything

You should check for corruption of your CD/DVD burning software from whereever you got it. Sometimes some burning software isn't good enough to work adequately. I'd test some new burning software to see if that is the problem, if upbrading your burning software doesn;t do the trick. You can downlowad free trials of Roxio, NTI, and other good burners to test this hypothesis. And, of course, try calling LaCie support.
