Question about Sony BDP-S360 DVD Player

Open Question

On my Sony BDP-S360 DVD Player, I cannot select HDMI on the setup menu, i can only select component, or standard. Everything is hooked up correctly. the DVD player works fine off of RCAs except for a horrible picture, but when you set the TV to HDMI 1(the HDMI slot the DVD player is hooked to), the TV says cannot find signal. The cable is good, it works fine for my 360. I just don't understand why i cant select HDMI as my output on the DVD, or why my TV is saying no signal.

SOURCE: HDMI not working Sony BDP-S350

With sony products sometimes you have to use sony parts to get it to work. I would suggest to buy a sony HDMI cable and see what happens if that doesn't work then take the player back to the store because you got a faulty player.

I don't know what kind of TV you have, but on some TVs the HDMI inputs have to be enabled via the TV setup menu. Try looking at the setup status.

I have a Sony BDP-S360 DVD Player, 1080p, that gives me a "Not Supported Mode" on my Samsung 1080i plasma TV. Model # HP-4253. I'm using a HDMI cable which I know is good because I used to with...

The error message you are receiving normally signals that the component you are connecting to your TV is outputting a video signal that is too high for your TV. You mentioned that your TV is a 1080i unit; the player may be trying to send a 1080p signal to it.

Pages 42-44 of your manual describe how to setup your output video mode. It may be that you have your video set to auto. The second column of page 43, just under the table labeled BD-ROM 1080/24p Output, describes how to press HOME to display the home menu, and then change the BD-ROM 1080/24p Output setting. You should be able to turn this OFF, and your picture should then come up, as the player will automatically lower the resolution until it finds one that will work.

If after lowering the output resolution you still receive the message, then there may be a problem with the Video Output circuit of the player. The player should be able to communicate through the HDMI cable to find the proper resolution. IF defective electronic components are stopping this from operation correctly they will have to be replaced. If you still have a warranty left they should cover this cost.

If you don't have a copy of your manual handy you can download a copy at the following website:

start from depending on your tv with hdmi-RGB-s-vid-component that is a little list starting from best to worst just match it up with your tv until you get a color fit and this will rule out best picture too then set tv input accordingly :)

The audio on from my sony BDP-S360 sucks. Its low in some spots then way to loud in others, and on some movies I have to have the volume turned up almost full blast just to hear what is being said...

Check the audio settings in the setup and see if HDMI is set as the default audio output, you may also be able to adjust the type of digital signal passed to see if that makes a difference.

Failing that run an analogue (red and white) cable to the TV, it should have one set dedicated to one HDMI input.

This is kind of a weird problem and would indicate either a defective BD player or defective TV.

Hope this helps,
