Background sounds louder than vocals. How to turn down background music?

Not aware of any way to do that. If your TV allows adjustment of different frequencies (equalizer) or if you can route the audio to a sound system you can boost the frequencies that correspond to voice. or try cutting some of the others.

You need a mixer. Connect the microphone to the mixer and also the background music. That way you have separate control of volume for the voice and the music.
The background noise can come from different sources. One of them is from the laptop itself, if the laptop is noisy to begin with.

Look carefully in Menu---many Toshiba sets have a HALL or Theater setting which will make background louder than people talking--likely your problem and the owner manual should explain this.

Sound when playing DVD's is off. The background

Do you have any "sound buttons" on the remote? If so, switch to "voice" if you have it.
You can also go to menu settings, make sure trebble is turned up 3/4 of the way up. Make sure it is NOT set to MONO.
Make sure both right and left channel audio cords are plugged in.

in the menu there should be some type of set up for this, it will most times show you on your screen a room with all the speakers in it and ask you to hit test then it will shoot a white noise type of sound around to each speaker and ask if you heard it, there are then adjustments you can make for the front, rear, and side sperkers independent of one another.
