A sewing machine bobbin is an integral part of the system. You must thread the bobbin correctly for the sewing machine to work properly. Here are some basic tips to install a bobbin on a sewing machine. Be sure to read the directions for your machine as well.

Tips & Warnings

1. Remember to remove any lint in the bobbin case to make your machine operate more efficiently.
2. For best results, buy and use bobbins specifically made for your make and model sewing machine.

INSTRUCTIONS

Step 1 Open the bobbin cover. Take note of the direction the thread comes from the bobbin. Remove the bobbin from the machine.

Step 2 Raise the needle to its highest point. Release the pressure on the machine's flywheel. There's usually a knob on the flywheel to turn or push to do this.

Step 3 Set the thread on the spindle. Loop the thread through the tension disk of the bobbin winder. Thread the bobbin from the inside out. Snap the bobbin onto the bobbin-winder spindle. Push the bobbin winder into gear.

Step 4 Hold the loose end of the thread in your hand. Use the foot feed to start the sewing machine. Wind the bobbin. Continue to hold the thread in your hand until it breaks on its own. When the bobbin is full, the machine stops automatically.

Step 5 Cut the thread. Release the bobbin winder gear. Put the sewing machine's flywheel back into gear. Pull the bobbin off the bobbin-winder spindle.

Step 6 Make sure the bobbin is going in the right direction as you set it back into the machine. Typically, if the machine winds the thread in a counterclockwise rotation, the thread feeds off the bobbin in the same direction.

Step 7 Loop the bobbin thread around any tension loops in the bobbin case. Hold the end of the thread in your left hand as you lower the needle into the machine with your right hand. The needle should catch the bobbin thread and bring it up through the feed dogs. Replace the bobbin cover and you're ready to sew.

How can I stop my material sliding around when I am sewing?

Basic Tips for All
  1. Always turn the handwheel TOWARDS you (counter clockwise) as turning it in the opposite direction (away from you, clockwise) may knock the timing out requiring repair from a service center.
  2. Always be sure your presser foot is in the DOWN position before sewing. Sewing with the presser foot in the up position will cause your thread to tangle and your bobbin to jam.
  3. Change needles regularly (after 16 hours of use) as dull/weak needles can cause damage to your machine and fabric. Only use SINGER needles on your SINGER sewing machine.
  4. Always be sure you are using the correct bobbin for your machine. Class 66, Class 15 and Class 15J bobbins look very similar. However, using the incorrect bobbin class in your machine can cause damage.

Thread tangling inside bobbin case catching on another part

1. thread machine correctly.
2. make sure bobbin case in spinning in the case in the correct rotation. If the bobbin is spinning off of the bobbin incorrectly, "bird nesting" is the result.

Help with Euro Pro 9000, the thread keeps getting tangled up in the bobbin area..

When I had this problem, even though I have been sewing for years, I was just not threading the needle properly. Make sure the presser foot is raised when you thread the needle. Another reason is that the thread is too old, the needle is not the correct size or type for the material, neither is the thread. Hope this helps. It's usually nothing to do with the bobbin, but the upper thread.

Jamming machine

Need a little more info.
When you say "jams" do you mean the machine will not turn over, is there a "tangle" of thread under the material you are sewing and also around the bobbin holder?

Worked great until the needle broke and now the bobbin thread bunches up

Hello

Clean out the bobbin area if there are any thread tangles there.

If the bobbin does not fit snugly into the bobbin case, then get new bobbins. You need class A or 15 and they do not cost very much. Make sure they are plastic and not metal.

Refer to the maintenance section of the manual - see the configuration of the bobbin case and shuttle race? The bobbin case as an extending arm and the race a notch. When inserting the bobbin case into the shuttle, turn the handwheel so the needle is at it's highest position. Then lift the lever on the back of the bobbin case and insert the cast into the shuttle, arm pointing straight up toward the bed of the sewing machine.

Now thread the machine with the presser foot up - always - and see if the tangling stops.

There should be a tension setting for your bobbin thread, as well as your top thread. It sounds to me like your bobbin tension setting is not in sync with your top thread.

most common solution to this is to remove the top thread completely from machine and re thread it with the presser foot UP not down. This will allow the top thread to engage properly in the top tension disc

The bobbin thread is sewing loose - after sewing you can just pull the thread out. Stitches are uneven in length some short some long.

Tighten the bobbin thread a little and loosen the top thread tension a little. A correctly tensioned embroidery machine will show a little less than 1/3 of the top thread color and 2/3 of the bobbin thread on the bottom side of the embroidered piece. You may have to play with it some so use scrap material and dark top thread until you get your adjustment made.

Upper thread getting tangled in the bobbin

Always remember T-N-T. Thread, Needle, Tension. Assuming its threaded properly, is the needle all the way in and facing the right direction? These symptoms also suggest the bobbin may be in the bobbincase upside down thus turning in the wrong direction. Hope this helps.
