Hello jsc.... the depth that the nailer drives the nail is dependent upon two factors, the hardness of the material you are driving the nail into and the air pressure. Generally when you want the nail to go in more you adjust the air pressure to a higher setting, going 5 psi at a time until you are close to perfect and then fine tuning the air pressure.

Sometimes people find that the air compressor itself is inadequate for the job. in that case, the only choice is to move up to a higher psi compressor. Joe

Thanks for choosing Fixya!

Nailer drives nails too deep

n80 coil nailer is a very powerful nailer used for hard wood. If the driver is setting nails too deep, adjust safety foot to the lowest level. Install safety foot no-mar boot to lift the gun even higher. If still too deep, most likely the lower bumper inside the gun is worn-out or cracked. Easy test. Remove nails and connect air supply. With trigger depressed, push and hold the gun against work (I use an old rubber hose tightly coiled up). This will fire the gun but keep the driver down allowing you to examine the tip of the driver. The driver should extend out past the nose less than quarter inch. If the driver is extending too far, most likely bumper is worn out. If a large quantity of air is leaking out the nose of gun during the test, indication that lower bumper is cracked. Good luck.

My ridgid r213bna nail gun won't fire a nail, but has good pressure & no jam...

If a gun is firing and nails are not being driven into the work it's because of one of two problems. The nails aren't feeding fully under the driver or the driver isn't fully retracting each time the gun is activated. Is looks like you've eliminated a feed problem so you are going to have to take the gun apart to find out why air is not being held in the bottom of the head long enough to push the driver back up the cylinder. Go to www.ereplacementparts.com and bring up your model so you can follow along. Remove the four screws holding the head cap on. The things that can cause your problem are: the piston seal & o-rnig are damaged, the cylinder is badly scored, the o-ring & cylinder ring on the bottom half ot the cylinder are damaged or out of place, or the driver guide under the bumper is broke or missing. If it turns out internal parts are damaged or missing, I highly recommend the overhaul kit to replace all the 'soft' parts inside the gun as long as you have it apart.

My Hitachi nv65ah nail gun won't set nails into 3/4 trim. I have played with the turn/screw set adjustment and it is set for the deepest setting. This gun was purchased second hand off e-bay but

If every nail is stopping at the exact same height, a likely reason is the tip of the driver is broken off so it's not long enought to drive the nails all the way to flush. If the height of the nails is slightly different you may have worn or broken o-ring(s) inside the gun and air is leaking around the driver's piston or elsewhere in the gun so that the driver isn't getting full pressure. You can take the gun apart and inspect the o-rings. If you push the driver all the way down the tip should come flush or slightly past the end of the nose piece (not the safety tip). Parts are easy to find online or at a service center if you have one nearby.

Ive had the same problem where it was putting divits you could see from the staples, we ended up changing out the flooring completely. Only thing besides trying diff psi's to get it perfect and different length staples/different heads on staples(nails) , maybe try staple gun. Keep trying every woods different, odd that it started half way through job.. odd.

How do I load the 2 1/2 inches nails to my 16 ga porter cable finish nailer? How do I put the oil and what part of the gun?

Hello,

You need to open the nail magazine and you just load one strip of nails at a time, then close the magazine. It will have a spring putting pressure on the nails, so it will have resistance on it and it will increase as you close it.

The oil gets dripped in the air hose connection on the gun before you connect the air. Make sure that this gun actually takes oil, some newer guns are oilless.

Hope this helps,Matt

Arrow ET200 nail gun only put nails in 1/8 of inch.

This electric nail gun does not have much power. Try shorter nails and softer wood. You need a pneumatic nail or staple gun for medium or heavy work. I have both a nailer and stapler and neither are very good.

How do you safely remove jammed nail gun?

Not sure exactly what Bostitch framer model you have, but if it is powered by compressed air, as long as you remove the air hose from the nail gun, there should be no risk of the nail gun firing while you remove the jammed nail. There should be a way to access the driver area from the top of the nail gun, even via a latch or a couple screws. Remove the top part of the driver area and that should give you access to the jammed nail, which you can remove. Use long nose pliers or something similar if the nails are really stuck.
