I have a westinghouse lcd monitor, model : LCM-20v5. It was working fine, then one day when I turned on my PC, it displayed the desktop for about 5 seconds then went black. If I restart my PC, it happens again. How do I fix this?

Hi! I do understand that you are having the problem with the monitor. Try to remove the cables on the monitor and turn off your laptop. Then remove the remaining cables on the desktop. Then press and hold the power button on the desktop for 8 seconds. Then reinsert the cables on the desktop and on the monitor also. Turn on the pc and if you still have the same issue, try to use another compatible cable to your monitor. Then make sure the monitor is turned on. There are few things to consider in this issue. Is monitor cable has loose ports? Meaning to say if you connect the monitor port to the desktop, there might be some pins that are bent. You can check it by inspecting the cable connectors. Otherwise, the LCD circuitry inside your monitor is busted. That is the time to call the manufacturer and replace the monitor. You might as well try a different desktop CPU to further isolate the problem. It might be a possiblity that your CPU desktop is not responding. You can check the lights if it is green , yellow or off. I hope this helps...

Hello,

The intermittent image, dark picture or no power are all indications of a failing power supply. If you can solder you should be able to repair your monitor. We have an article posted on our web site at: http://www.ccl-la.com/blog/index.php/repairing-the-westinghouse-lcm-20v5/ The post is about repairing the Westinghouse LCM-20V5 but they both use the same power supply board, the Delta DAC-12M033 so the information is the same. If you don't want to do the repair yourself we do offer a repair service for this model for $32 plus return shipping. More information on this service can be found here. http://www.ccl-la.com/blog/index.php/service-request-form/

I hope this information helps, if so please rate our solution.

Does not power up freind thinks it's a blown capacitor

Yes, it can be that and other components.
Most common failure in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed WESTINGHOUSE (LCM-20V5 may be thesame chssis as yours) and monitors to get some ideas what goes wrong: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums
Post back what you see inside so we can guide you further.

Screen goes black after fraction of a second

More likely to be bad capacitors in the power supply, see LCM-20V5 (almost the same chassis as used in LCM-19V5) example: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums

Post back what you see insdie so we can guide you further.

Monitor works for a fraction of a second

See article written by sillybit (me) for the Westinghouse 19v5. My 20v5 had bad caps in the power supply - it did the exact same thing as yours. $8 worth of parts from radioshack and an hour or two is all mine needed.
