Question about Hoover U6630-900 WindTunnel Bagless Upright Vacuum

Vacuum won't switch from "carpet" mode to "hard" mode

My Hoover U6630-900 vacuum won't switch from "carpet" mode to "hard" mode and turn off the brush.

I found a spring on the floor and it appears that may be the problem but not sure how to get to that switch and reattach it.

Any thoughts?

I need instructions on how to remove the plastic cover on the vacuum and get to where the missing spring can be reattached.

    Can you help?

If you turn the vacuum upside down so it exposes the beater bar you should see about 6 phillips screws holding the top and bottom together. Remove those then you will have to slide the base to the front a bit as there are tabs along the back. The bottom should come free and you will be able to get to the height switch as well as the drive belt and beater bar (good time to clean those out or check em)
The spring should fit into the plastic switch assembly. If it came out there is a good chance the plastic is toast you need a new switch. You can try a solvent adhesive or a good epoxy if the switch is busted up (my guess) but that may not last that long. On one I had I just manually set the height then put it back together as the switch wasn't available.

The spring is located at four locations. 1) Beside the internal motor. 2) Behind the operating buttons. 3) Under the assembly in where the brushes are fitted. Its for creating tension to the brushes. 4) At the wand for the extension. The spring latch (D) on the wand allows the extension to be adjusted to the desired length. Release spring latch by pushing it forward and adjust wand to the desired length. Spring latch will lock the wand into the selected position.-------------- For all other spring location the unit has to be opened. So that you can check out other two springs fitted and you can fix the third popped out spring.-------------- Check out.Thanks.

I don't need to know how many springs there are as I know this one is for the switch that turns off the brush.

I do need to know how to get the vacuum apart enough to put the spring back where it belongs.

Answer will not be accepted if you can't provide direction on how to get the cover off so I can get to that switch.

    Thanks.

Why is hoover vacuum so hard to push

I don't know what model vacuum you have but if there is a way of adjusting the amount of suction; try reducing it.
Otherwise, it could be the nape of the carpet.

How do I change the selector switch

The easiest way is to lock the vacuum in the upright position and then tilt back slightly (raising the drive wheels) slide the carpet / hard floor switch to the desired position.

Why is thecleaner not coming out of carpet cleaner

You have to continually hold the trigger to release the cleaning solution. If you don't hold the trigger closed then you are running the vacuum in carpet drying mode. http://hoover.com/file/610/

Where is the belt located on my hoover steam shampoer

There is probably not a belt. The brushes on the carpet cleaner head and attachments work from air and there is a roller bearing deep inside that will wear out and the brushes won't turn. I've found no way to fix this. I consider it a design defect.

Brushes don't spin

Hello :
try this please : switch the carpet/bare floor dial back & forth 5 times, ending on carpet. Tilt the handle back as if to vacuum upright & lay the vacuum on its side so it is resting on the side opposite the carpet/bare floor dial. Turn the vacuum on.
or try this also if the above suggestion didn't work :
Maybe the belt is broke. You will have to replace the belt before the roller can spin. You must have run over something in the carpeting like string or whatever to have it break. Happens all the time. Get several replacement belts to keep as spares while you're at it as nothing is worse then having to vacuum and no spare belts.

My hoover carpet scrubber the brushes won

(1) Remove the brush block and assure the presence of the square drive pin on top of one brush. It should be about 1/4 inch square, two inches long to connect o the drive mechanism.

(2) Remove and clean the filter screen from the base, behind the brushes. Squeeze the two red tabs together, and pull down from the base. Clean the hiar/debris from the screen.

(3) Assure the Brush Speed knob on the hood is NOT set to the OFF position.

Hoover Windtunnel carpet level adjustment

The suction is so great that it sucks up your carpet, then nothing works. I get my children to stand on the corners/edges of the rug so that it stays perfectly flat on the floor while I vacuum. Or, you can turn off the brush roller (set it to "hard floor" setting). Or, tip the vacuum cleaner's front up slightly while vacuuming, to reduce suction.

Dark marks on carpet after using hoover

these dark marks are burn marks from the beater bar itself. most walmart, kmart, and target shelf vacuums from hoover, dyson, and any cheeper vacuum has a hard bristle system. I've noticed even on the high end hoovers as well that they do the same thing. the best way to save your carpets is to see if there is a replacement beater bar that can be substituted for your vacuum. i dont know what style of beater bar that particular one is but check with your local vacuum repair center to see if they have something with softer brushes you can use insted otherwise i would recommend a new vacuum with softer bristles. usually something that is half as stiff as what is already on yur unit. you culd also try lifting the hight setting as a temporary solution.
