Question about Maytag MSD2650HES Stainless Steel Side by Side Refrigerator

1 Answer

I have a msd2650hes maytag side by side last year (4yrs old at the time) one day my pressure for the water dispenser in the door went ot a 10th the original pressure, i assumed it was the filter bc it had been a year. I repalced the filter and no change. I hired a repair man referred to me and he replaced my valve on the back of the fridge, still no go. 2nd time and $180 later, he checked the line for air and to make sure the water line was working, all along the ice cubes were a flowing the whole time no issues. now i have just lived with slow water pressure. but the other day my father in law took out the ice bucket to fill a coller and ever since the ice maker has stopped working, i saw a small amount of ice formed in the maker that had not been released so i uplugged it and defrosted it then reinstalled but still no ice please help with both of my problems.

Hello,

Normal 0 false false false MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 /* Style Definitions */ table.MsoNormalTable {mso-style-name:"Table Normal"; mso-tstyle-rowband-size:0; mso-tstyle-colband-size:0; mso-style-noshow:yes; mso-style-parent:""; mso-padding-alt:0in 5.4pt 0in 5.4pt; mso-para-margin:0in; mso-para-margin-bottom:.0001pt; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:10.0pt; font-family:"Times New Roman"; mso-ansi-language:#0400; mso-fareast-language:#0400; mso-bidi-language:#0400;} The reasons the air is not moving is usually two reasons

  1. The fan or blower has failed.
  2. The coil is covered over with ice and blocks the air flow.

The first reason is pretty simple to fix, you simply replace the air circulator and things are good again.
The second reason can be more difficult.
1. The timing device that runs the defrost cycle of the refrigerator is defective.
2. The heater coil that melts the water is shorted or not working

Usually the first thing to check is the heater coil. If there is resistance through the coil then most likely it is still good.
The timing device can be an advanced defrost control board or a mechanical timing device.
If the heater coil checks out to be good then the problem should be the timer.

For most situations, unplugging the refrigerator and allowing it to defrost on it’s own will get you going temporarily, till parts can be shipped to you. That will melt the ice and give you a few days or a couple of weeks till it ices up to the point where it will not work again.

So you can see here, the problem can usually be traced to one of three things.
  1. The fan or blower
  2. The timer device
  3. The electric heater coil
By methodically checking these parts you can isolate your problem and fix it.

Good luck.

Maytag MSD2650HES leaks out the bottom when we use the door water dispenser. It's 10 years old. Is it worth fixing or should we just replace it?

this fix could be a simple leaking connection or hose
you have some options
call a technician and have the problem properly diagnosed and get a quote
if the quote is around 40% of the price of a new unit then consider a new unit as parts for your unit will be at the no longer available stage lf you really do not water dispensed from the door , disconnect the system and use a jug of water in the fridge or purchase a water/ drink cooler but that is an option to consider

Ice maker makes small cubes. Low water pressure at door

Is water pressure to house normal? Have you moved Refrigerator recently? if so you may have crimped water supply pipe or tube.
Is the valve for that pipe full on? Or was it turned off to do something to the water supply? Last time Water filter was changed? Electric valve for water dispenser may be clogged. That's the last place I would look. Small cubes may be an adjustment or switch to cause partial fill.

I've got a GE side by side refrigerator that's approx.7 years old. This past weekend, I resolved the problem of not getting water out of the cold water dispenser. After replacing the two-way water solenoid...

Check around the door gasket to see if gasket pulls off or is it held on by screws if there are screws you can separate the door and insulate the tube if no screws than replacing the door is the only repair.

Maytag side by side fridge water dispenser not working

there are two water inlet valves on the back of refrigerator, one for icemaker the other for water in door. the valve for the water inlet is plugged or the soelinoid coil is bad. replace faulty valve, usually about 20 to 30 greenbacks at the appliance parts store

Dirty pieces of ''onionskin'' in water after changing water filt

Same problem in my 1 year old Maytag side-by-side. I let the stuff it sit in a cup for about 5-7 days, and it turned into a fuzzy mess of mold. Obviously a problem. However, Maytag WILL NOT admit a problem. Home Depot would not override Maytag's decisions. They did arrange for an appliance repair company to replace internal tubes, but after about a month of drinking it again, (WITH A NEW $35 FILTER) I found lots of new MOLD last night. Filled a pitcher a couple of times to find six "onion-like" pieces. This has been an ordeal of about 9 months. My family has had unusual illness (colds, flus, stomach problems) for the past 9 months. I am about to take it to the city dump.

WATER QUIT RUNNING IN DOOR

Okay. My appliance is around four years old. The first time the water quit working was about a year ago (ice cubes / dispenser was fine). I just let it go and didn't worry about it. One day months later, I found it functional again. That lasted about a month or two, then it recently quit again. Tonight, I located the water supply line coupling under the unit on the left side under the freezer door, about five inches from the hinge. I separated the coupling (push lock type) and pressed the water dispenser lever. After a few seconds, the water flowed out just fine. I re-attached the coupling, turned the freezer coldness selector to 0 (off) opened the freezer door and fetched my wife's blow dryer. I ran the dryer along the inside of the freezer door near the black door seal frrom the hinge up to the water/ice dispencer compartment. I also ran it all along the back of the dispenseer compartment to the handle side of the door as I am unsure of where the water line runs. After about ten minutes of this, I attempted to dispense water with no luck. I continued with the blow dryer until the plastic and even the door seal were very warm to the touch. I closed the door and attempted to dispense water once again, and this time it worked. I turned the coldness selector back on. This time I set the freezer to 3 and the fridge to 7. I ran several cups of water through the dispenser since it's been sitting in the line for a while before drinking any. As for the "reservoir," I don't where or if one exists, but heating up the inside of the door from hinge to dispenser worked perfectly. Hope this helps someone!

Cheers!
